➢An A.C. Generator converts Mechanical Energy to
Alternating current.
➢Alternating Current: A current which changes its
direction regularly after a fixed interval of time.

Principle:
➢ A closed coil is rotated in a
uniform magnetic field. The Magnetic Flux linked with coil changes & emf is induced.

Construction:
21-09-2020 Physicswallah Lakshya Batch 2020-21
(1) Armature: 1. Rectangular coil having a large number of turns of insulated copper wires wound on a soft iron core.
2. The core is laminated to avoid eddy
current loss.
3. The Armature can rotate about an axis
perpendicular to B.

(2) Slip Rings 1. The two ends of Armature Coil are connected to two coaxial brass rings S1 and S2 called Slip Rings.
2. As the armature rotates, the slip rings
also rotate with it.
3. S1 and S2 are insulated from each other.

(3) Brushes: 1. The graphite (Carbon) brushes B1 and B2 re lightly pressed against the two slip rings.
2. The current from Armature is fed to
external circuit through these Brushes
3. B1 always remains in contact with S1
B2 always remains in contact with S2
