Globalization and disruption is a condition
where no boundaries or borders among
nation. People can interact each other easily
in a real time by using digital media and
internet connection.
There is a decline in using Indonesian
among the society. The pride of using
correct and good Indonesian is also fading.
When we see how people use language in
social media, we can see they like using
popular and mixing language like “bestie”,
“kepo”, and “PAP”.
Another example: many teenagers are eager
to learn Korean and the culture for their
idols. Yes, it is not a mistake to learn
foreign language/culture. Mastering foreign
language is important in competition in the
global era, but it is truly sad when teenagers
are more enthusiastic studying foreign
languages and cultures rather than
Indonesian languages and cultures.
This expression truly has a deep meaning. It
encourages us to preserve local culture as
well accept and filter foreign culture that
enters our lives. This expression also invites
us to preserve regional languages as
treasures of national culture, maintain and
be proud of speaking Indonesian, and learn
foreign languages as preparations for
competing in the global era.
