Learning of Grade 12 Students of

Solido National High School
S.Y. 2023-2024

CHAPTER 1
INTRODUCTION
BACKGROUND
Extracurricular activities are activities that students participate in outside
the regular academic program or school days. These activities can take
place in school or the community and are typically voluntary, students can
pursue their hobbies, learn new skills, and participate in social or
recreational activities during these events, which might happen in the
community or at school. According to Bakoban, R.A & Aljarallah, S.A
(2015) the study’s finds that the students at King Abdulaziz University are
typically happy with the extracurricular activities that are available to them.
They reported that the study’s findings indicated a relationship between
students’ satisfaction with their extracurricular activities and the faculty.
The study also discovered that there are notable variations between the
Grade Point Averages of students who participated in extracurricular
activities and those who did not; the median Grade Point Average of those
who participated in extracurricular activities is higher than the median
Grade Point Average of the non-participant.
When improving the learning process, holistic learning aims at the full
person's mind, body, emotions, and spirit. It highlights how all facets of a
person's growth are interconnected and strives to offer an effective and
well-rounded education. Holistic learning often emphasizes hands-on
experiences and real-world applications of knowledge. This can include
activities, projects, field trips, and other practical learning opportunities. It
involves integrating various subjects and disciplines, and recognizing that
knowledge is interconnected. This approach helps students see the
relationships between different areas of study.
Students' education can be significantly and favorably impacted by
extracurricular activities. Developing every aspect of the person's mind,
body, emotions, and spirit is the goal of holistic education. Participating in
extracurricular activities provides students with opportunities to interact
with community members. This social engagement helps students develop
interpersonal skills and emotional intelligence. Whether it's taking on a
leadership role in a club or overcoming obstacles in a sports team, these
experiences contribute to the development of resilience, confidence, and
self-esteem. In summary, since extracurricular activities cover many kinds
of aspects of a student's development outside of the classroom, they are
essential in encouraging holistic learning. These hobbies contribute to the
development of well-rounded people with a wide range of abilities,
viewpoints, and experiences.
