1.Give the three reasons why the Kartilya ng Katipunan is important to the grand narrative of
Philippine History.
1. Kartilya ng Katipunan plays a significant role in our society both the past and the present. It
shapes the people of what and how they should be as part of the Katipunan. This also serves as a
guide rule for every citizen pertaining to what and how they must live and be a person that every
Filipino can look up to.

2. The message of the Kartilya ng Katipunan is that the expansion and The Katipuneros' strength
stems from their ability to lead based on love for one's nation, God, and people. It also revealed
that Filipinos are the appropriate route for leading a meaningful life and ending the injustices and
inequity committed by the government in the past. After a while amidst serious challenges and
conflict, Filipinos of various backgrounds came together with the same objective: to fight
colonization. It represents morality, dignity, and nationalist ideals that can improve the people of
the nation, which is the primary goal of the text. It was essential in raising Filipino awareness,
encouraging a spirit of resistance against foreign authority, and establishing the foundation for the
development of a Filipino national identity.

3. The spirit of resistance and values upheld in the "Kartilya ng Katipunan" persisted in influencing
Philippine history even after the Katipunan was ultimately defeated and the United States
colonized the Philippines. The declaration served as inspiration for later Filipino generations in
their continuous resistance to foreign power and in their fight for social justice, democracy, and
human rights.
2. Read the Decalogue of the Duties of the Sons of the People by Andres Bonifacio and compare it
with the Kartilya ng Katipunan by Emilio Jacinto. In your opinion, which better suits the needs of
the Philippine society during the time of the revolution.

• Both documents have their own merits and serve different purposes within the context of the
Philippine Revolution. But in my own opinion, Kartilya ng Katipunan better suits the needs of
the Philippine society during the time of the revolution because it provides more specific and
practical guidance for members of the Katipunan, who were actively engaged in armed struggle
against Spanish colonial forces. The Kartilya ng Katipunan gave detailed instructions on proper
behavior for Katipunan members, including rules regarding combat readiness, discipline, and
secrecy. For revolutionaries fighting armed battles against Spanish colonial forces, this useful
advice was crucial for guiding them through the difficulties of guerilla warfare and ensuring the
success of their resistance efforts.
