Subject Teacher

INTRODUCTION
In our study of Christian Living 10, integrated with Values Education in the
formation of Good Manners and Right Conduct, this lesson will help us delve on
the purpose and meaning of human life founded ultimately on our human
relationship with God.
Dag Hammarskjold who became the second United Nations Secretary
General from 1953 to 1961, in his famous quote:
“For all that has been, thanks. For all that will, yes.”

He pushes us to the boundaries of our common human experiences to

realize that our lives have universal meaning in terms of relationship. In every
relationship, we make a response of gratitude and commitment.

Let us clarify our priorities! This is quite individual work.

according to the following point system and descriptions by writing
number as the most important, and 4 as the least important:
1- Most important! I cannot do without this in my life
2- More important. Life gets better with this around
3- Important. It is good to have in one’s life.
4- Least important. Perhaps, I can let go of this easily

HIERARCHY OF VALUES
As we mature, we recognize that things are not equally important
or do not share the same worth. Some realities have greater value than others. We must
already be convinced that there should be a correct ordering of priorities. Part
of hierarchy is that people are more
important than things.
According to Abraham Maslow as
human persons, we need certain
things to survive that call basic need.
Beyond our need to survive is our
need to belong with people and self-
actualization, to develop to the
fullest.
However, beyond Maslow’s

model, we must not forget that we

have spiritual needs. We must open
ourselves to the truth that our
physical and psychological needs
are gradually working toward a
higher spiritual goal.

We are embodied spirits. We acknowledge that spirituality has greater worth than material
goods. It is our humanity that helps us translate the spiritual reality into a material symbol or
to appreciate the spiritual
message behind the physical language.

ACTIVITY 1- SPIRITUAL REALITY AND MESSAGE

Reflect on the cases that follow. Then draw or write the spiritual reality or
message derived from the specified cases.
CASES SPIRITUAL REALITY OR MESSAGE
1. Shine wants an apology to her parents.
How can she translate this a physical
reality?
2. Jake’s father is celebrating his birthday.
How can Jake express his love for his
father?
3. Hasan sends a bouquet of red roses to
Fatima. What is he trying to tell her?

Here is something to think about .

 God’s love and His call for us to love others
are seen in His creations.
 One of this is seen in the pelican.
 According to some accounts, when the pelican finds
no food for its young, It wounds itself to shed
its blood for food.
 Who has been a “pelican” in your life? Why?

GOD’S CALL IN OUR LIVES
At this point we turn our attention and reflect on our relationship with the highest good
of our lives, our greatest good who is God. God is truly alive in our midst. He continues to
create and recreate the world, and this includes all of us. Just as He continues to sustain life
on earth and the movement of our planet, He continues to create us as human person
sustaining our existence, our growth our freedom, and our loving acts.
God is love. He has made and continues to make all things out of love. He has called us
and continues to call us to a loving relationship with him. Beyond a Creator-creature
relationship, He calls us His children. In truth, He desires to be exceedingly close to us to
share His divine life with us. He has made possible through His gift of freedom. By choosing to
do good and loving acts, we are able to live with God like a Father, a Brother and a Friend.
Oftentimes, however, we do not see nor feel that God is present in our midst. In fact,
others among us lead lives without acknowledging God’s love and existence. Sometimes, It
seems that there is no difference between those who believe that there is a God and those
who believe that no God exists. For some atheists may even appear happier.

ACTIVITY 2- Real Relationship With God

Reflect and answer the following questions:

1. Why there is “loss of God” in the world?

_______________________________________________________________
_______________________________________________________________
_______________________________________________________________
_______________________________________________________________
_______________________________________________________________
2. How can people sense God?
_______________________________________________________________

_______________________________________________________________
3. Is God really that far from senses? Explain.

At the age of 30, Ignacius of Loyola realized that his old priorities had all
revolved around his commitment to an earthly king. Having experience defeat in
battle and the near loss of his life, he felt a strong urge for a more meaningful and
lasting direction in life. Deep in his heart, he discerned that what brings true joy to
a human person is one’s faithful relationship with God, the One and True King.
Activity 3 – Self –Check
1. Give your honest your honest answer to these questions: Is God real in my
own life? Is He reigning as the center of my life? Put a check mark (/) in the
corresponding box.

1. He does not exist.

2. If he does exist I barely sense Him in my life
3. He make His presence felt sometimes.. Often, I
choose not to remember Him
4. He is so real to me I choose to member Him often.

2. Reflect and answer the following questions:

a. What can help you remember that God exists? Why?

___________________________________________________________
___________________________________________________________
___________________________________________________________
b. What impediments are there for God to be real in your life? Why?

c. What can help in deepening your relationship with God? Why?
