I. OBJECTIVES
A. Content Standards The learners demonstrate an understanding of how light, heat, and sound travel
using various objects.
B. Performance standards The learners demonstrate a conceptual understanding of the
properties/characteristics of light, heat, and sound.
C. Learning Competencies Describe how light, sound, and heat travel. (S4FE-IIIf-g-4)
At the end of this lesson, the learners will be able to:
A. Describe how heat is transferred in solid materials.
D. Specific objectives B. Appreciate the importance of heat in our daily activities.
C. Illustrate how heat is transferred in solid materials with the use of cup,
spoon and hot water.

GROUP ACTIVITY
Group No. 1 What is heat (Concept Map)
Group No. 2 show how heat is transferred in a solid materials (Experiment time)
Direction: Let the pupils answer the guided questions by exploring through
experiment on how heat transfer.
Objective: Describe how heat is transferred in a solid materials
Materials: Mugs, Spoon and Hot water.
What to do:
1. Fill a mug with hot water, Be extra careful when pouring hot water to the
mug. Avoid spilling the hot water.
2. Place a metal spoon into the coffee mug.
3. Wait for about 3 minutes. Carefully feel or touch the exposed end of the
spoon. Slightly touch the outside surface of the mug too.
Guide Questions:
1. What happened to the exposed end of the spoon after 3 minutes?
2. What did you notice about the out outside surface of the mug when you
touched it? Why?
3. Suggest ways on how we can reduce the effect of heat on the mug so that
we can avoid getting hurt when we touch it.
G. Finding practical Let’s take a look on this picture of an indigenous people particular Aeta’s
application of concepts
and skills in daily living
(Elaborate)
Process Questions:
1. How fire is important to our indigenous people?
2. How will you compare your situation now from among our fellows Aeta’s
in the remote areas? Can you say that you are much blessed than them?
H. Making generalizations Ask the following Questions:
and abstractions about the 1. What is heat?
lesson (ELABORATE) 2. What is conduction?
I. Evaluating learning Directions: Read the following question being describe. Select the letter of the
(EVALUATE) correct answer.
1. What is the direction of heat transfer?
a. From hot to cold
b. From bottom to top
c. From cold to hot
d. From side to side
2. How is heat transferred in solid materials?
a. Through convection
b. Through radiation
c. Through conduction
d. Through vacuum
3. What happens to a solid when heated?
a. It remains the same
b. It increases in volume
c. It increases in temperature
d. It increases in water level
4. What may happen to a solid when it is continuously exposed heat?
a. It may become heavier
b. It may decrease in volume
c. It may expand
d. It may melt
5. When heat is transferred through solid it is called ________
a. Convection
b. Conduction
c. Heat transfer
d. Radiation
