The COVID-19 pandemic has created unprecedented challenges across the globe.

More than just a

health crisis, it has resulted in an educational crisis. In a few years, the proficiency levels in reading
based on national and international large-scale assessments were very low. These assessment results
necessitate prompt attention to address learning gaps and strengthen the reading proficiency of every
learner.

The Department of Education remains steadfast in its commitment to deliver quality, relevant, inclusive
and responsive basic education. In light of these considerations, DepEd shall implement Catch-up Fridays
beginning January 12, 2024, across elementary and secondary schools and community learning centers
nationwide.

Good morning to each and everyone! I am Rowena l. Lorenzo, and welcome to the Kick-Off Ceremony of
Catch-up Fridays with Drop Everything and Read!

 I am inviting everyone to please stand for the singing of the national anthem, Ma’am Mary Jane
M. Tumaneng, conducting; to be followed by a prayer by Ma’am Lyn Amor S. Gaspar. Let’s have
a moment of silence for this patriotic ceremony.
Please be seated.

 At this juncture, to give us the opening remarks, let’s hear from our very own school head,
Prinipal II, Ma’am Melinda A. Antonio.

 And with us today is our Master Teacher II, Ma’am Wences P. Ungos for the Statement of
Purpose.

 I do believe that the secrets behind this significant event are not only teachers, who have
rendered their invaluable service by guiding the learners to the right path, but also the partners
who give support financially, love and encouragement in every activity in our school. Without
unity and cooperation, attaining our goal will not be possible. That’s why it is important for us
to act as one to strengthen the relationship of DepEd and stakeholders in providing quality
education for our learners.

At this very moment, we will hear a message of support from our SPTA President, Mr. Eddie C.
Mateo, Jr.

 As we are about to close our program, to give us the acknowledgement, here is our Master
Teacher II, Ma’am Ana Rose A. Alseco.

 Thank you for gracing the occasion. Your presence is much appreciated! Catch-up Fridays with
Drop Everything and Read Kick Off Ceremony allows us to understand that, “if we are willing to
learn, we can become a part of the change we want to see – the DEARest way!

 As Dr. Seuss said, “The more that you read, the more things you will know. The more that you
learn, the more places you’ll go.”
