STANDARD OPERATING PROCEDURE FOR

RGMO
1. Purpose

Purpose of the SOP is to use it as instructions for the safe operation of unit and assist
grid in stabilizing when required during unit in operation with grid.

2. Equipment specifications
EQUIPMENT DETAIL:
2.1 RGMO - intricate part of EH oil system
2.2 EH system pressure - Running value 14.5MPa
2.3 Pump outlet pressure - Running value 14.5MPa
2.4 AST pressure - Running value 14.5MPa
2.5 OPC pressure - Running value 14.5MPa
2.6 ASP pressure - Running value 7.0MPa
2.7 Working current - Running value 20~25A
2.8 Liquid level - Running value 410~580mm
2.9 Oil temperature - Running value 30°C~55°C
2.10 Oil type - Fire-resistant oil
Saybolt Viscosity (38°C) 220SUS

3. Scope
The scope of this document is limited Restricted governing mode of operation only

4. Prerequisites& Conditions
Unit should be running in synchronisation with grid and should have load more that 50%.

The restricted governor mode of operation shall essentially have the following features:
4.1 There should not be any reduction in generation in case of improvement in grid
frequency below 50.2 Hz. (for example if grid frequency changes from 49.3 to 49.4 Hz then
there shall not be any reduction in generation).
Whereas for any fall in grid frequency, generation from the unit should increase by 5%
limited to 105 % of the MCR of the unit subject to machine capability.

4.2. Ripple filter of +/- 0.03 Hz. shall be provided so that small changes in frequency are
ignored for load correction, in order to prevent governor hunting.
4.3 If any of these generating units is required to be operated without its governor in
operation as specified above, the RLDC shall be immediately advised about the reason and
duration of such operation. All governors shall have a droop setting of between 3% and 6%.

5. Responsibilities
5.1 Shift In charge - For all sorts of Coordination

5.2 Turbine Control room engineer -- For Putting and monitoring the
Unit performance in RGMO
5.3 Boiler Desk Engineer -To monitorand manage coal
feeding when unit operating in
RGMO
5.4 Turbine operators - For regular checking and
Reporting the status and giving
clearance to CCR

6. Procedure
5.1 Putting in RGMO in service
I. RGMO can be put in service from DEH monitor by clicking on RGMO ON
button.
II. RGMO Conditions have been explained in Prerequisites & Condition i.e in
clause 4. However cases may be as follows.

Case 1: Frequency Dip from 50 Hz to 49.96Hz.

Consider Unit operating at 50Hz, at 300MW. When the frequency decreases from 50. Hz to
49.96 Hz, then system will not respond as it being dead zone between 49.95 to 50.05Hz.
Case 2: : Frequency Dip from 50 Hz to 49.94Hz or more Consider Unit operating at
50Hz, at 300MW. When the frequency decreases from 50. Hz to 49.94 or more, system will
pick up 5% load instantaneously according to droop characteristic. However this load will
have to be brought back to its original setpoint by the desk engineer by entering original
setpoint i.e 300MW.
Case 3: : Frequency rise from 50 Hz to 50.06 or more or more Consider Unit operating
at 50Hz, at 300MW. When the frequency increases from 50. Hz to 50.1, system will reduce

load by 5% load instantaneously according to droop characteristic. However this load will

point i.e 300MW

5.2 Safety & precaution

 All Interlocks & protection to be in service
 If vibration in TG is high or during any other emergency then RGMO
can be removed and information must be passed on to WRLDC/
Switchyard.
 When the load has increased or reduced when unit is operating in
RGMO then load is again brought back to its original setpoint by desk
engineer manually.
