Director of Communal Land Arrangement, Institutional Relations and Land Deed Officials
Directorate General of Land Registration and Land Rights Determination
Ministry of Agrarian Affairs and Spatial Planning/National Land Agency
Republic of Indonesia

Dear Director Syah:

PHILIPPINES: Invitation to Participate in the East Asia and Pacific (EAP) Regional Workshop on the
Recognition and Formalization of Land Rights in Forest Areas

On behalf of the World Bank and the National Commission on Indigenous Peoples (NCIP) of the
Philippines, we are pleased to invite you to participate in an upcoming Regional Workshop on the Recognition
and Formalization of Land Right in Forest Areas to be held from February 5 to 7, 2024 at TAG Resort,
Coron, Palawan, Philippines.

During the Regional Workshop, Country Action Plans and a Good Practice Note for Recognizing and
Formalizing Land Rights in Forest Areas will be presented and discussed. The World Bank and PROGREEN
have partnered with government agencies in the Philippines, Indonesia and Laos PDR to prepare Country
Action Plans for each country following the first EAP Region Workshop held in Laos last November 2022.

During this upcoming Regional Workshop, there will also be discussions on current situation, proposed
interventions, and future direction of tenure rights, especially for indigenous peoples (IPs), ethnic groups and
local communities, in forest areas in the EAP region. Part of the workshop activity will involve site visits to
showcase IPs’ roles in protecting and sustainably managing their Ancestral Domains in the Philippines. The
workshop invites partner government agencies, development partners and civil society organizations to advance
the discussions and support the Country Actions Plans. With this, the workshop likewise seeks to link
development partners interested in financing the Country Action Plan implementation with the responsible
government agencies.

The World Bank, thanks to support from PROGREEN, will cover the travel and accommodation
expenses of government representatives. We have reserved one (1) slot for your organization. We appreciate
receiving confirmation of your participation on or before January 12, 2024, Friday, to Danica Gonzalez, Team
Assistant, World Bank through email: dgonzalez3@worldbank.org.

Should you have any inquiry or require clarification, you may coordinate with Sarah Antos, Senior
Land Administration Specialist (santos1@worldbankgroup.org) and Markus Kukkonen, Senior Land
Administration Specialist (mkukkonen@worldbank.org), and the NCIP-Foreign Assisted Programs and
International Relations Office (fapiro@ncip.gov.ph).
