ELECTRICAL SERVICES

1.1 Introduction

This design report has been prepared to provide a clear and detailed description of the solar
power design procedures in order that the final detailed design intent is clearly understood and
accepted by all parties.
The solar power system will be designed to the requirements of the, European / British and
International Standards.

1.2 Scope of Works

The scope of works shall include the design and installation of the pv solar system for the
Abaarey Police Station:

1.3 Applicable codes and standards

a) European standards (CEN)

b) Institution of Electrical & Electronic Engineers (IEE) Wiring Regulations (Latest Editions);
c) Institution of Electro Technical Commission (IEC) Standards;
d) CIBSE Guidelines;
e) ISO 9001:1994;
f) Any other relevant standards.

1.4 PV Solar Power Generation System

The system shall comprise roof mounted solar panels-420Wp, combiner boxes, inverter and
storage batteries. Solar power shall support only the lighting system.

The solar panels shall be mounted on the roofs of the main building. The storage batteries,
inverters, shall be housed in the Battery Room.

The PV system provided will harvest the solar energy via mono / poly crystalline photo voltaic
(PV) cells. Inverter shall be used to convert the direct current (DC) generated into alternating
current which shall be used to run alternating current (AC) loads / equipment, and also charge
the batteries.

1.4.1 PV Solar Panels

These solar panels shall be mounted on roof of the main building as shown on the drawings.
Each panel shall be 420Wp

Monocrystalline PV Module, 420Wp

1.4.2 Inverter / Charger

Inverters/charger will perform two functions:

 Charge the batteries for energy storage;

 Convert dc power from batteries to AC.

1.4.3 Battery Banks

Maintenance free, sealed batteries, deep cycle, have been recommended. The batteries shall
be OPzV type with design life of upto 20years.

1.4.4 Cable Sizes for Solar Components

The cable sizing shall be done in accordance to IEC 60364-5-52/BS 7671 / IET 17th Edition.
Various sections of the installation will be connected by various cable sizes determined by:

 The full-load current flowing through that section and derating factors;
 The approximate length of cable and the number of cable runs,
 The expected voltage

1.5 Earthing for the Electrical system

To ensure safety and proper operation of the electrical system, proper earthing system shall
be provided for the entire electrical system. This shall comprise copper conductors, copper
earth mats, copper electrode and soil conditioning agents and earth inspection pits.

The main earthing for the electrical system shall be provided at the following points:

i. Meterboard;
ii. Inverter;
iii. Consumer units.

Earth electrode resistance shall be measured to ensure that it’s below 10- Ohms.
