Ethical Values: EMPATHY

Once upon a time there lived a girl by name Ana. She lived in a village with her parents.
Once, her parents had to travel to some other place as a part of their job. So, her granny came down to
look after her. Ana was pampered by her granny. She always took more liberty with her.
Ana did not understand that her granny was old. Granny had to take care of the house hold
activities and also Ana. As Ana liked her granny’s cooking, she used to ask her to prepare something
new and tasty every time. If granny would not prepare, she would become angry and fussy. Granny
had to please her by buying something from the near by shop.
One day her granny was not feeling so well. Still, she had managed to prepare a salad for
dinner. But Ana negatively commented on the taste and left the salad without finishing. Granny felt
very bad. But she did not express.
After a few days, Ana’s parents came back. They insisted granny to continue to stay for a for
few more days. When they saw Ana’s behavior, they understood how difficult it would have been for
the granny to be with her all those days. Ana’s parents spoke to Ana and made her understand that
being stubborn and fussy was not correct. Neha also realized her mistake and decided to be more
helpful and less fussy.

MORAL OF THE STORY:

We must love one another and be sensitive towards others. Many times, we take the people
we love for granted and expect them to behave according to our wish even without realizing how they
feel about it. We should learn to respect their feelings and make sure that they are also equally
comfortable being with us.

Ethical Values: RESPECT

Walang mahirap o mayaman, bata o matanda, may kapansanan o wala,
maitim o maputi, Muslim man o Kristiayno.
A Man With A Lamp Story
Once there was a blind man who lived in a small town. He lived alone all by himself. He
always carries a lamp with him. One day he was passing by the street when a group of young
travelers saw him with a lamp. They started to make fun of the blind man. One of them
started laughing saying, “Hey look at the blind man with the lamp.” The man heard it and
replied to the young travelers, “ I am carrying this lamp not for myself, it's for people like
you who can see but don’t notice me that I’m blind unless I'm carrying this lamp and pushing
me in a hurry.” The young travelers felt ashamed of their behavior. They apologized to the
blind man.

Ethical Values: OBEDIENCE

The ethical values “ obedience” is also very evident in the Bible . Colossians 3:20
says “Children, obey your parents in everything, for this pleases the Lord.” 1 John 2:5-6 “But
if anyone obeys His word, God's love is truly made complete in Him. This is how we know
we are in Him: Whoever claims to live in Him must walk as Jesus did.” 1 John 5:3 “This is
love for God: to obey His commands.

Story of A Disobedient Girl Dayane

Once upon a time, there was a girl whose name was Dayane. She was very disobedient and
never listened to her mother. Whenever her mother said something to her, she did the exact
opposite. Her mother was so upset seeing her daughter this reckless and disobedient.
Whenever Dayane’s mother tried to talk to her about her rude behaviour, she said, “I am an
independent girl and can do anything I want. I do not have to listen to you.”

But Dayane’s mother was always worried about her and could not find a way to make her
listen to her. She was always scared that her young daughter would get into trouble because
of her disobedient nature. Every time she made a mistake, Dayane’s mother scolded her. But
she kept doing the same thing without thinking about the consequences. Diane's mother tried
to give her advice too.

One day, Dayane woke up early. Her mother saw her awake and asked her to sit on a wooden
chair. Dayane, as always, did not want to sit on that chair. So, Dayane’s mother told her to
take another chair and sit on it. But Dayane said, “No. I would not sit on another chair.”
Dayane sat on a different chair, not caring about what her mother said. After she sat on that
chair, the chair broke. Dayane immediately fell from that chair. Her mother saw Dayne
falling. She said from behind. “I told you to sit on another chair.” After that, she started
laughing.

But Dayane was hurt to see her mother laughing at her. She was a bit angry too. Her mother
understood her and came closer to her. She said, “See, my dear daughter, do not get angry. I
do not ask you to do things because I want to torture or dominate you. I tell you to obey me
because of your good. If you had listened to me and sat on the chair I asked you to, you
would not have fallen.”

Dayane looked at her mother with teary eyes. But she stayed silent. “I love you so much,
Dayane. I am laughing at you because I forbade you to sit on that chair, but you did not take
my warning seriously and fell. Obeying someone is a good characteristic. It is not a curse.
Obedience is good because now, I am showing my love to you, and by listening to me, you
are showing your love to me. If you do not listen to me, how am I supposed to know whether
you love me or not?”

Diane's mother took her daughter on her lap and told her, “Here is what I am going to do if
you do not obey me. You always keep saying that you are an independent girl and that asking
you to listen to me is unfair because you are free to do whatever you want. I tell you not to do
something because I do not want you to get into trouble. But you never listen to me thinking I
am trying to dominate you. But can you imagine living with a rude daughter? When you
become an adult and have to work, cook, and make expenses, nobody will like you if you are
disobedient. So, I have decided to send you somewhere to study if you do not obey me. But
we would not be able to meet, not even once a week. I do not want to do this. But to avoid
this, you need to change your disobedient attitude. I will help you to become a better person.”

Diane's eyes were filled with tears hearing her mother. After that, she promised to listen to
her mother, and they lived together happily.
Moral of the Story
The moral of the story is: “One should always obey the elders.”
