Zeroth Law of TP==> Heat Radiation.

Radiation takes place from one body to another
body until the body and the surrounding becomes
in equilibrium condition.

Degree of Hotness (Temp) &

Equilibrium Condition.
Happens with all interconnected
ANY BODY / Anybody

First Law of TP or the Law of

Conservation / Transformation of
Energy ⇒
states that energy can neither be created
nor can it be destroyed. Energy can only
be transferred or changed from one form
to another.
3
In other words,
Total Heat energy supplied or absorbed is utilized
for performing Internal Work and external work.
HE Supplied Q = Int Energy + Ext Work
Q (J) = U (J) + W (J) = Int Wk + Ext Wk
Q = Delta U + W
4.18 J = 1 Cal.

Second Law of TP: -

 The Second Law of Thermodynamics states

that the state of Entropy (S) or
Disorderness/Randomness of the entire
universe, as an isolated system, will always
increase over time.
 Hence, S > 0 as time increases.
 The second law also states that the changes in
the entropy in the universe can never be
negative.

4
The third law of TP ⇒
states that the Entropy (S) or Disorderness of
a system or body at a temperature of zero
Kelvin (absolute zero) is equal to zero.
Entropy, denoted by 'S', is a measure of the
disorder/randomness in a closed system.
It increases with temerature.
If S is the entropy of a system,
SI unit of S =J/K

Do You Want to know …………………..
Second Law of TP / TD is,
Efficiency = e = 1 = 100 % = Cent Percent =
For Ideal System
In daily Life Situation at Room temp 27o C
Room Temp = 27 + 273 = 300 K, e is Less than 1.
QH = HE Supplied = I/P
W = Usable energy = O/P = QH - QC
Loss of Energy = QC = ZERO only at 0 Kelvin.
e = Output / Input = W / QH = (QH - QC) / QH
e = 1 - (QC/ Q) = 1 - Fraction Value
Because of Entropy (Disorder or Indiscipline)
in the System.
Hence, Entropy can be measured in terms of KELVIN - temperature.

THIRD Law ====> defines Entropy.

Entropy = S = SI Unit is J/K = J K--1
If Temperature T = 0 K = Absolute ZERO, ===> S = o,
QC = 0, Hence, QH = W ===> e =1

6
Otherwise,
T > 0 K, ⇒ S>0 ===> e < 1
Types of Units.
HE= E = Q = Joules (J)
HC - J / K = Heat Capacity
LHE = LHC or LHC = J / Kg ====> HE ≠ HC
SHE = SHC = J/K/Kg = J / Kg--1 K--1
Entropy = S = J / K
Temperature = T = K

Conversion Factor for Temperature

xoC = (x + 273) K
Difference in 1 degree Celsius = Difference in 1 degree kelvin

A Sample to solve SHC = Q / (M x Temp Diff) = J/Kg.K

Heat Supplied by Electricity = Heat Absorbed by Water & Copper Vessel

VIT (Elect E Supplied) = Absorbed (Water + Vessel)

Vessel Material = Copper Vessel
SV = Scopper = ?
& SW = 1 Cals/g K
V=12 Volt
I=3A
t= 20 Min = 20X 60 = 1200 Second
VIt = 12 x 3 x 1200 = 43200 Joule = HE supplied = EE
HE supplied = EE = 44000 / 4 = 11000 Cals (Approximately)

15
Q = Absorbed by Water & Copper Vessel
Q by Water = M x (SHC) x Change in temperature
QW = 50 g x 1 Cal/g.K x (38-28) = 50 x10 =500
Q by Copper Vessel = M x(SHC) x Change in temperature
QC = 30 g x (SHC or SC) x Change in temperature
QC = 30 g x (SC) x (38-28) = 30 x10 (SC) = 300 (SC)
QC = =300 (SC)

11000 Cals = QW + QC = 500 + 300 (SC)

300 SC = 11000 - 10,500 = 10,500 Cals / g x K
SC = 10,500 / 300 = 105/3 = 35 Cals / g x K

In SI units, 1 Cals / g x K = 4200 J/Kg.K

SC = 35 Cals / g x K = 35 x 4200 = 147000= 1.5 x104 J/Kg.K

SC Approximately = 1.5 x104 J/Kg.K

Units - 1 + 2 & 3.
Temp Difference = Final R -- Initial R
1 K ≠ 1oC,
but difference in 1 K = difference in 1oC
This is because of Linear Scale of K & oC
Whereas Farenheit & oC are Not LINEAR
1oF ≠ 1oC,
but difference in 1 K oF ≠ difference in 1oC
Example: -
Melting Point of Ice = 0oC
Melting Point of Ice = 0oC + 273 = 273 K
Melting Point of Ice = 32oF
SI Unit of HE -- J

19
SI Unit of HC -- J / K but not J / oC
SI unit of LHE / LHC = J/Kg
