Impact of Social Media on Remote work Facilitation

During class, we did a presentation on the impact of social media in the age of remote

work. We had prepared well for the presentation and everyone was well equipped with the

content. Each one of us had researched how to answer different questions, and we were ready

to tackle the audience amicably. The group had planned to present a well-planned analysis

based on the researched statistics and expert opinions. During the presentation, we

experienced some challenges from the audience. We were overwhelmed with questions, and

most audience did not agree with our conclusions which resulted in unexpected difficulties

for our presentations. We were tasked with providing with real world experiences from

people who had encountered these issues. The audience believed we had generalized our

findings and used a poor approach to handle the presentation. Because it was one on one

interaction with audience, majority of us were not confident, and it made looked incapable of

handling questions. The audience believed that we did not rehearse well, and our

communication skills were below the par. It put us on dilemma, and we got stranded. We

tried as much as possible, but we realized we needed to do more research in order to develop

a good presentation.

Feelings

The audience gave us a rough time with lots of questions during the question- and-

answer sessions. Due to poor preparation, the questions posed to us made us uncomfortable.

Even though we were very confident about our preparations, the Q&A session shocked us

and deprived me of the confidence I had earlier developed. I felt very insecure and

uncomfortable, bearing in mind that the whole class and our lecturer were expecting much

from us. I felt much distorted, and my expectations were greatly impacted. I remembered we

had made a good presentation, but now our efforts were uncertain. Many questions went

through my mind. I doubted our capabilities and believed we had made lots of mistakes in

rehearsing for the presentation. It gave us negative image, but I believed it was a moment to

learn. Our failure raised a bad mood in the class, and I realized we needed to change our

research approach to improve our future presentations. The incident highlighted the need for

resilience and ability to adapt to negative or positive experiences (Keeling, 2021). Our

emotions were ruined by an unexpected experience but I believe we had a greater chance of

making better changes that will improve our future presentation. It was a chance to get

freedom from pre-constructed narrative and establish a working discourse. Furthermore, I

realized it was a good platform that would assist us in understanding our topic well. At the

end of the presentation, the spirit of hope had filled our hearts. I believed this was a journey

of learning and growth. It showed that the path to academic success is rough and filled with

unexpected encounters.

Evaluation

The presentation focused on the negative and positive impacts of social media on the

workplace. This provided a diverse approach that assisted in understanding how technology

can assist society and also negatively impact it. The analysis was balanced and provided

insights that captured the full spectrum of social media influence on remote work

experiences. The presentation provided us with an understanding and exposed unconscious

bias towards viewing technology through one lens. Earlier, I thought that technology had

only positive impacts in the work place but this reality made us to critically reflect on our

assumptions and biases and made us to approach the topic from different angles. Also, it

made us approach the topic with great openness and willingness to consider different

perspectives. Furthermore, academic research and theoretical frameworks were important in

understanding how remote workers experienced the use of technology (Keeling, 2021). The

audience on the other hand, were not pleased with our final findings. This necessitates the

significance of involving real-world approach and different voices in our findings and

evaluations. I realized the presentation lacked adequate space for open discourse and

engagement with the audience. The questions posed revealed how weak we had prepared. It

also exposed our little confidence and resilience but have us a greater lesson for future

academic work. I learned the significance of acknowledging diverse topics, enhancing

constructive debate, and teamwork to establish a comprehensive understanding of the topic.

Furthermore, the incident served as an important learning opportunity because it challenged

our strategies and also exposed our limitations on how we conducted the research. It gave us

an opportunity to learn the importance of approaching the topic with greater reflection and

flexibility. Additionally, it gave us platform to understand the importance of insights into the

dynamics of the digital world and the significance of using diverse approaches in analysis and

communication.

Analysis

The presentation resulted in unexpected questions from the audience. This led to

critical analysis that went beyond our presentation; it gave us a chance to reflect on key areas

we had missed in our research and also provided a platform to dissect the assumptions in our

research. Additionally, this was a chance to relook at the framework we used to

understanding the different dynamics of remote work and technology. Our analysis fell short

of a diverse approach to understand the impact of social media on remote work settings. Our

analysis failed to capture different aspects, making it hard to answer questions during the

Q&A sessions. The audience questioned our approach, and this exposed our limitations in

terms of poor research skills and our inability to build confidence while presenting academic

work. I understand that social media, just like any other technology, has both negative and

positive impacts. To understand these impacts needs diverse approach that looks at the topic

from different perspectives. Furthermore, the incident revealed our unconscious biases

(Keeling, 2021). Even though social media was found to be a source of distraction in a

remote work setting, we overlook its ability to improve connection and collaboration. It was

a platform for us to change our approach and include openness and willingness as a strategy

to consider alternative perspectives. The research and theory we used to understand the topic

was not sufficient to capture the full picture of how the remote worker conducts themselves.

The questions posed by the audience faulted our findings and urged the need to involve a real

world approach in our evaluation. In this regard, we realized the importance of diversifying

our research techniques and also listening to the narratives of people impacted by the

technology (Bulman, 2013). The presentation further revealed the importance of open

dialogue in enhancing better understanding. I believed that our earlier presentation only

focused on predetermined conclusions which did not develop space for constructive debate

and engagement with the audience. During the Q&A session, the questions posed made us to

open the floor for discourse and it assisted us in listening dissenting viewpoints and further

investigate the nature of the topic. These changes in communication were informative, and it

assisted us to move beyond our weaknesses and establish a comprehensive conclusion.

After presentations, we realized we needed to relook into the framework we had

earlier used to evaluate the impact of social media on remote work. We realised the need to

unpack our biased and work for more objective evaluation. We engaged in a real world

approach and encouraged open dialogue which gave us a chance to listen to different voices.

These changes equipped us with a rich perspective on how to investigate the growing

background of social media technology.

Planning

The challenges we faced during the presentation made us develop a new course plan

to help us tackle the issues and develop a better understanding of the topic. We understood

the poor approach we took and planned to embrace dimensional frameworks. It is important

for our future research to capture the diverse nature of social media and technology and

understand their implications for the remote work setting. It is also important to diversify our

perspectives and embrace real-world experiences to foster our understanding and prevent

generalizing our findings. The experience also gave us a chance to understand the danger of

unconscious biases in shaping communication and research. It would be crucial for us to

identify our own biases and thrive on exploring the topic using diverse approaches. It was

important to seek feedback from different people in order to challenge and improve our

understanding. Furthermore, it was important for us to improve the research methods by

recognizing limitations and expanding our approaches to gather information from academic

sources and real world encounters. The move included conducting interviews with remote

workers, and reviewing the real world case studies. Additionally, it was important to engage

in participatory research methodologies that give people who are directly impacted by social

media technology an opportunity.

Our future research needs to foster an open dialogue to assist in enhancing deeper

understanding. It will be important for future research to focus on active listening, debates,

and engagement with different parties (Adeani et al., 2020). Additionally, I believe it is

important to develop space for the open exchange of information from different voices. With

the growing nature of social media technology and human interaction, it will be important for

future research to commit to continuous learning and adaptation. In this regard, the approach

will focus on staying updated on the current research, participating in on-going discussions

with experts, and be open to new ideas. Focusing on continuous learning will improve

understanding and evaluation and make them relevant and valuable in an evolving digital

world. These plans will assist our future work to improve and reduce the weaknesses

encountered during the presentation. We will use a different approach and explore the broad
Gibbs reflection Cycle and Smart Goals 7

social media technology and remote work from different angles. The plan will be dynamic

and able to streamline our understanding of the topic and give us tools and awareness to be

critical thinkers.

Conclusion

Our topic on the impact of social media on remote work settings provided an avenue

to experience different opinions from the audience. We encountered some weaknesses where

we could not respond well to questions posed by the audience. This was a greater limitation

that indicated our unpreparedness and exposed our poor approaches used to explore the topic.

This forced us to confront our biases, relook to our assumptions, and try to establish a

platform for learning and transformation. I realized that the interplay between technology

and human interaction could be understood well by using different perspectives and not

simplicity. Even though we had strong confidence in our research presentation, we

encountered some questions that proved to be a critical ground for curiosity. I realized the

importance of listening to diverse voices and using challenges as opportunities for better

explorations. These changes elicited a passion for continuous learning and a commitment to

lifelong growth. Additionally, I realised that our presentation was one sided and did not

involve dialogue, collaboration, and space for vibrant debate. As a result, I realized that

exchange of ideas from different voices improves understanding. Emphasizing open dialogue

was a crucial platform for research and communication. The limitations of our research

findings made me realized the need for adaptability, and engaging real world experiences and

restructuring our approach. I believe that the incident was not a moment of failure but an

opportunity for improvement and awakening, and gave us chance to confront the realities.
