Session Title: “Make people respect you”
Session At the end of the session, learners will be able to:
Objectives: a) understand respect and recognize emotions requiring
respectful responses and actions;
b) able to differentiate respectful from a disrespectful situation;
and
c) actively engage in respect-building activities, reflecting on
personal experiences.
Key Concepts: Respect is the glue that holds your relationships together.
You need to learn ways to be respectful and know what to do
when somebody isn’t respectful toward you.
Giving and receiving respect from others is important because
it helps us to feel safe and to express ourselves.
Being respected by important people in our lives growing up
teaches us how to be respectful toward others.
Respect means that you accept somebody for who they are,
even when they’re different from you or you don’t agree with
them.
Respect in your relationships builds feelings of trust, safety,
and well-being.
Respect doesn’t have to come naturally – it is something you
learn.
We get a lot of our self-worth from how the people we care
about see us. Being disrespected can make you feel not good
enough, worthless or like no one will want to be in a friendship
or relationship with you.
Active participation in respect-building activities is essential for
learners to internalize and apply respect as a critical social skill
in their daily lives.
