not more than 40.

12. Lim bought x kg of rambutans and y kg of langsat with the total mass of both fruits is
at least 5 kg.

q books with the total sales is more than RM 250 a week.

14. Nieza fills 0.5 kg of flour into x small containers and 1.5 kg of flour into y big
containers. The total mass of flour filled is less than 10 kg.

15. Mr. Chong save RM x and RM y in two banks which offered a simple interest rate of
6% ad 8% per annum respectively. One year later, he received a total of interests
which is not less than RM 210 from the two banks.

16. The price of a pack of chicken rice is RM 4.50 and the price of a pack of fried rice is
RM 5.00. Puan Irah needs to earn the total daily sales more than RM 105 in order to
make a minimum profit.

Let x = number of chicken rice packs; y = number of fried rice packs

2
Write a linear inequality in two variables for each of the following situations.
17. Puan Yati sells nasi lemak. The selling prices of a packet of nasi lemak with egg is
RM1.50 and a packet of nasi lemak with chicken is RM 3.50. The total daily sales of
nasi lemak should be at least RM 120 in order to make a minimum profit.
Let x = number of packets of nasi lemak with egg ;
y = number of packets of nasi lemak with chicken

18. Madam Linda Lim wants to prepare fish and prawn dishes in conjunction with the
Chinese New Year celebration. The cost of a kilogram of mackerel is RM 25 and a
kilogram of prawns is RM 45. Madam Linda wants to spend RM 250 to buy fish and
prawns.
Let x = amount of mackerel ; y = amount of prawn

19. Encik Halim wants to rear chickens and ducks on a small scale to generate some
extra income for managing his growing family expenses. A chick costs RM 2 and a
duckling costs RM 1.50. Encik Halim has a capital of RM 500 to purchase the chicks
and ducklings.
Let x = number of chicks ; y = number of ducklings

20. Madam Letchumy wants to contribute RM 50 for two types of kuih in conjunction
with Canteen Day at her son’s school. The cost of a curry puff is 30 sen and a kuih
kasturi is 40 sen.
Let x = number of curry puffs ; y = number of kuih kasturi

(B) Points in the region and the solution of certain linear inequalities.

21. Plot the points (1, - 1), (0, 1), (1, - 6), (- 1, 4) , (- 2, - 7) and (- 3, 2) on the following
Cartesian plane. Determine whether the points plotted satisfy y = 1, y > 1 or y < 1.

22. Plot the points (1, - 2), (0, 2), (4, - 6), (- 1, 4) , (2, - 7) and (- 5, 2) on the following
Cartesian plane. Determine whether the points plotted satisfy x = 2, x > 2 or x < 2.

4
23. Plot the points (1, - 2), (0, 2), (1, - 6), (- 1, 4) , (- 5, - 7) and (5, 8) on the following
Cartesian plane. Determine whether the points plotted satisfy
y = 3x + 2, y > 3x + 2 or y < 3x + 2.

24. Plot the points (1, - 2), (4, - 2), (0, 1), (1, 4) , (4, 3) and (2, 6) on the following
Cartesian plane. Determine whether the points plotted satisfy
y = - 2x + 6, y > - 2x + 6 or y < - 2x + 6.

5
25. Plot the points (-6, - 1), (4, 1), (5, 0) and (10, 2) on the following Cartesian plane.
1 1 1
Determine whether the points plotted satisfy y = 2 x – 1, y > 2 x – 1 or y < 2 x – 1.

26. Plot the points (11, - 2), (4, 2), (0, 4), and (-4, 0) on the following Cartesian plane.
Determine whether the points plotted satisfy y = - x + 4, y > - x + 4 or y < - x + 4.

27. Determine whether the point (4, 7) 28. Determine whether the point (3, 5)
satisfies satisfies
y = 2x – 5, y > 2x – 5 or y < 2x – 5. y = 3 – 4x, y > 3 – 4x or y < 3 – 4x.

y 2x – 5 y 3 – 4x

Thus, point (4, 7) satisfies Thus, point (3, 5) satisfies

29. Determine whether the point (1, –3) 30. Determine whether the point (9, – 1)
