Demonstrate an ability to operate Centrifugal Separators

:Starting Sequence

o Make sure that all valves to and from the tanks being used are correctly lined up.
o Check if the service air is available.
o Check if the operating water is available.
o Check the bottom bearing oil bath level and that the brake is disengaged.
o Start the feed pump and adjust the oil temperature (approximately 98oC for HFO, LO
will be approximately 84oC).
o When the temperature is at the desired value, start the purifier motor from the
switchboard.
o The control panel will be shown "Starting", and the motor light will be flashing.
o When the motor is at normal running revs and the Amps have fallen to normal, the
light will go off and the purifier will be ready for the separation sequence to begin.
o Press the Start button "will be flashing" and the sequence will begin.
o The sequence will take all its steps and finally the feed valve will open.
o When the feed valve opens, maintain the back pressure accordingly using the outlet
valve (2.4 bars for HFO, 1.4 bar for LO).

Stopping Sequence:

o Stop the separation process by pressing "Program off"

o The stopping sequence will take all its steps and finally the feed valve will be closed.
o The panel will indicate that the oil is in circulation, and the purifier motor can now be
stopped.
o Shut the steam to the heater and keep the supply pump on circulation to cool down
the oil gradually (for HFO purifier set the temperature controller to minimum).
o Stop the supply pump and shut all inlet and outlet valves.
o Close the water inlet valve to the purifier.
o Engage the brake only when making sure the purifier is at standstill.
