Session No. and Title 2.

Fibonacci Sequence

Duration 1 Hours and 30 Minutes

Target Participants G10 - Math Teachers

Link to the Previous Session/Topic The session on “Arithmetic and Geometric Sequences” already generate and describe patterns. This is very
much needed for teachers to have easier and livelier discussions on the next lessons, in a way that teachers
should find different approach to deliver the lesson so it will not look redundantly taught.

Link to the Next Session/Topic The session on Solving Problems Involving Sequences needs a deep understanding and appreciation of the
different types of sequences. These were included on the previous lesson.

How does this contribute to the This session provides the trainers with the concept of Harmonic and Fibonacci Sequence which are very
program outcomes? important in appreciating patterns. This will boost teacher’s way of delivering the lessons, and ensure that the
needs of students in having better environment for learning will be met.

Learning Objectives At the end of the session, the participants will be able to:

 Solve for the next term ofFibonacci Sequence.

 Show the Golden Ratio from Fibonacci Sequence.
 Relate Fibonacci Sequence across other subject areas.`

Key Understandings  Fibonacci Sequence is a series of numbers where each number is the sum of the two previous numbers. It
also lead to what we call Golden Ratio which is 1.618.

INTRODUCTION Greet the participants and make them feel good and laptop 5 mins
comfortable. Provide an energizer, if necessary.

Present the objectives of the session.

At the end of the session, the participants will be able to:

 Solve the next term of Fibonacci Sequence
 Show the Golden Ratio from Fibonacci Sequence.
 Relate Fibonacci Sequence across other subject areas

4-43
ACTIVITY Say: I’ll be grouping you into five groups. Each group will have Projector, manila papers 15 mins
“Work it Up” the same set of numbers which will be flashed on the screen and marker

Do:
 The participants will arrange the numbers in ascending
order
 Afterwards, the participants will get all the ratios of two
consecutive numbers starting from the 2nd and 1st, 3rd and
2nd, and so on…
 The participants will present their work.

Analysis Ask:
 From the first table, how are you going to get the third
term if the given terms are the first and second term?
 How about getting the fourth term, with respect to the
second and third term?

ABSTRACTION  To get the third term we must add the first and the second 5 mins
term.
 Adding the second and third term will result to the fourth
term.
 The ratios of two consecutive terms approaches to 1.618 as
the sequence increases.

ACTIVITY Do: Graphing paper 15 mins

“Follow Me”  Divide the participants into 5 groups.
 Each group will be given one graphing paper.
 Tell each group to follow the instructions that will be
flashed on the screen.

Analysis 5 mins
 What can you say about the spiral as it grows?
 Is there any pattern?
 How will you get the next square?
Abstraction Manila paper and marker 10 mins
 The spiral grows by adding the two consecutive number of
squares. Its ratios approaches to 1.618 as it grows which is
the Golden Ratio.
 Yes there is a pattern, Fibonacci pattern.
 Add the number of two previous squares to get the next
square

BREAK 15mins

 What are the missing terms of the given Fibonacci

APPLICATION Sequence? 10 mins
1. 13, ___, 34, ___, 55, ___, 144, ___, 377, ___, 987, ___.
2. 233, ___, 610, ___, 1597, ___.
CLOSURE Do:
 Wrap up the session by giving some suggestions on how to 5 mins
further improve the skills on sequences.
 Emphasize this idea:
“The beauty of something or someone cannot always be
seen by the naked eyes. Just like Fibonacci Sequence, it
may not be visible but for sure, its always there giving
beauty to nature… Adding color to LIFE.
