Conditional Sentence +
Suggestion/Imperative

1. If Clause + Advice/Suggestion
LOGO
This type of conditional sentence is used to give advice/suggestion
about what should be done if a certain condition is desired.

To give advice, use the words: should/ought to or had better


Pattern:
1. If + simple present, S+ Should/Had Better /Ought to + V1
2. If + Simple present, Why don’t + S + V1?

Example:
1. If you are tired, you should stop working.
2. If you visit him in the hospital, you had better bring some fruit.
3. If you go to mountain, you ought to try camping.
4. If you want to win Olympiad, why don’t you study hard?
2. If Clause + Imperative

This type of conditional sentence is used to instruct
someone to do something if they want a certain condition.

Pattern
• If + simple present , V1 + O

Example in the dialogue:


Anna : I really want to be a magician, but I don’t know
how to master the tricks.
Jessy : If you want to master the tricks, search in
YouTube and study them seriously.
Anna : That’s a good idea. Thanks.
2. If Clause + Imperative

1. If you go to supermarket, buy me some snack.
2. If you are not busy, meet me in my office now.
3. If Mike doesn’t come, call me, please.
4. If you want to see a beautiful sunrise, go to
Mount Bromo.
5. If you go to public place, use your mask.
6. If you want to get higher score in Mathematics,
study harder.
3. If Clause + General Truth

This type of conditional sentence is used to state general


truth. General truth is facts that are always true, events
that always happen, how things exist, or behave (always
or permanently).

Pattern:
1. If + Simple present tense, Future tense
2. If + Simple present tense, Simple present tense.

Example:
1. If you throw a ball, it will fall downward.
2. If you heat an ice, it melts.

This type of conditional sentence is used to remind.

Pattern:
If + present tense, present tense

Example:
1. If you want a long life, you have to stay healthy
2. If you drive a car, you should wear the seat belt
3. If you want to sunbathe, you must wear sunblock
4. You have to get exercise, if you want to lose fat
5. If you don’t want to come late, you must go earlier.
5. If Clause + A dream/wish

This type of conditional sentence is used to show a


dream or a wish.

Pattern:
If + present tense, future tense

Example:
1. If I get a perfect score on Math, I will go on
vacation.
2. If I have much money, I will travel around the world.
3. I will take my parents to go to the beach if I have a
car.
