Chapter II

METHODOLOGY

This chapter presents the methodology used for collecting the data for the study. It explains the study
population, sample and sampling procedure, data collection techniques, data collection procedure,
administration of the survey instrument, and data analysis. It also gives details about the population and
sampling techniques used for the research.

Research Design
As it has been indicated earlier, the main purpose of this research is to assess the Impact of Facebook
Addiction on students’ academic performance. This study is a Quantitative research design and is a
descriptive design that aims to obtain information to systematically describe a phenomenon, situation,
or population ( Voxcos 2021).

Sources of Data

The primary sources of this study will be the survey questionnaires that will be given to the
selected Freshmen BCAED students of Zamora Memorial College. And the secondary sources of
data that the researcher used are journals, magazines, books and internet, and other reading
materials.

POPULATION OF THE STUDY

The respondents of this study are the Freshman BCAED students of Zamora Memorial College. The total
of first-year BCAED students is _______. The researcher will survey all first-year BCAED students. Bergen
Facebook Addiction Scale was used to evaluate the Facebook addiction of the students and categorized
them as “ Facebook Addicted “ and “Facebook Not Addicted”.

INSTRUMENTATION AND VALIDATION

To measure the Facebook addiction of the students, the researcher referred to Bergen Facebook
Addiction Scale ( BFAS) . The Bergen Facebook Addiction Scale (BFAS), was initially a pool of 18
items, three reflecting each of the six core elements of addiction (salience, mood modification,
tolerance, withdrawal, conflict, and relapse) ( Andreassen CS, Torsheim, et al., 2012). . The research
will only choose ten (10) questions that are suited for purpose of the study.

Since the researcher had modified the Facebook Addiction scale to fit the particular case while the
students completed the survey questionnaire, The document was examined after being presented to the
adviser. The comments and recommendations were subsequently taken into consideration.
STATISTICAL TREATMENT OF DATA

The following statistical procedure were used to interpret the data gathered from the respondents of
the study.

1. Simple Percentage. The demographic profile variables of the respondents were analyzed using
the simple percentage with the following formula:

F
P = N ( 100)

Where:

P = percentage

F = Frequency

N = Total number of respondents

100 = Constant multiplier
