The main function of a District Board meeting is to establish the vision and goals for the public schools in their
district, and they set standards for the performance of schools and superintendents.” School boards play a
crucial role in shaping the education system in the United States. Once a month, a school district schedules a
board meeting to give reports, talk about unfinished business, discuss new business, and discuss personnel
actions that arise throughout the year. Other than Recommended Routine Items, items that appear for a vote on
the School Board agenda are usually researched and approved by a committee before being brought before the
full board. Also called “business” or “regular” meetings, School Board meetings include two public comment
opportunities; one for specific items listed on the agenda and another for general comment.
