Metal Rose:

Construction Path
Avneet Dhillon
SAFETY FIRST!

The necessary safety

equipment for this project
includes:
- Safety gloves
- Eye protection
- Ear protection
Step 1:

Get a sheet of metal.

While wearing eye protection and
safety gloves, go to the metal
shear and cut out 4 squares of
metal (3.5” by 3.5”). Make sure
to fully push down the pedal of
the metal shear in one go.
These will be used for the petals.
Step 2:

While wearing eye and ear

protection, mark your metal
squares with your name using
an engraver.
Using a scribe, make an “X”
to find the centre of the
metal squares. Then trace
out a circle as well.
Step 3:

Use a centre punch and a

hammer to mark the
previously found centres of
all the metal squares (wear
eye protection & safety
gloves).
Step 4:

Wear eye and ear protection (but no safety

gloves!)
Clamp onto your metal square with a pair of
vice grips (make sure it is perfectly fitted)
Use a ⅛ drill bit to drill the hole. Make sure
you are holding the drill at a 90 degree angle
and slowly applying little pressure.
When done, place the drill on its side.
Step 5:

Use a pair of tin snips to cut the

metal squares and make them
appear like rose petals. Make
sure to round them off as well.
Wear eye protection and safety
gloves at least on the hand you
are holding the metal with.
Step 6:

Go outside.
Wear eye & ear protection &
safety gloves at least on the
hand you are holding the
metal with
Use a chipping hammer to
give the petals a more
rugged, realistic look
Step 7:

Use a ball peen hammer and

the wooden block with the
half sphere cut into it to
curve your petals. Make sure
to hit it lightly so that the
wood does not splinter. Wear
eye & ear protection.
Step 8:

Get another sheet of metal and using the same procedure as

you did for the petals, cut another square for the star.
Step 9:

Repeat the same process of finding the centre and drilling a

hole for the star as well. Then cut it into a shape that
resembles a star. Again, for a more realistic look, use the
same procedure as before with the chipping hammer.
