Step 6: Determining the Center Point on the Pedal

Once you have made your circles you will had to find the
center point so that you can drill the holes. In order to do
this you will use a ruler or a square to accurately find the
center. So in order to find the center, you will line up your
ruler with the corner of the table as it is a 45 degree angle
and make the line. Then you will turn the circle so that the
line it horizontal with the ruler and draw another line from
the corner of the table. With the two line drawn you will
have a center point where the line intersect You will have to
repeat this step for each of the circles.
Step 7: Center Punching the Pedal

Now you have found the center point of circles you are
going to center punch each of the center’s of the circles.
When you are ready to center punch make sure to wear
hearing and eye protection as well as safety gloves. Line up
the center punch with the “X” (center of the circle) and hit it
with one solid tap with a hammer. Also, make sure that
when you are going to center punch make sure that you
have your circles on the anvil on a vice or on a solid
surface.
Step 8: Marking Cutting the 8 Individual Pedals

Now you can make the 8 individual pedals. The first step is to mark
where you are going to make you cuts in order to make the pedals.
Next you will mark the pedals with the stencil. Then once you have
marked your cut lines you will use a pair of tin snips to cut on the
lines that you have marked. When cutting and handling the sheet
metal you should use gloves and eye protection as well.
Step 9: Drilling the Holes

As you have made a guidance for the drill bit you are ready
to drill. You will use a ⅛ drill bit to drill the hole. When you
insert the drill bit into the jaws of the drill make sure that
the jaws aren’t holding onto the teeth of the bit as it can ruin
the bit. Also, make sure that the drill is turing in the
clockwise direction to make sure it will drill through the
sheet metal. Once you have set up the drill drip all of you
material over to one table and make sure you have a scrap
piece of wood to let the drill bit drill into. Then you want to
hold the material with a pair of vice grips to prevent it from
moving around. Then you would line up the bit with the
center punch hole and start to drill. You should let the bit go
through the material on it own, but you could add a tiny bit
of pressure.
Step 10: Curving (turning them into bowls) the Pedals

Moving on from drilling the holes and the 8 individual pedals

now you are going to use the wooden block mold to same and
make the pedal circular like a bowl. You will set you pedal on the
top of the mold and then with a hammer you will hit the center of
your pedal and it will start of change shape and turn into a
circular bowl. When you are hammering you pedals make sure
that you are wearing you eye and hearing protection as well as
safety gloves.
Step 11: Detailing Each Individual Pedal

As we have done a lot of work to the pedals now it is time to add

some more realistic features to each of the pedals. This step
requires you to wear safety gloves, hearing and eye protection.
To make the textures you will use a chipping (welding) hammer
to make the designs. When you are hammering the pedals make
sure you are either hammering on the anvil and you can even
hammer on the edge of the static jaw to make the texture more
efficiently. Also, you can use the edge of the anvil to curve the
end each pedal to make them look more realistic. You will have
repeat this step for each of the 4 pedals.
Step 12: Making the Star

Once you have completed the steps above now it is time to work
on the Star. To begging with, you will ask your teacher for
another piece of the sheet metal or you will have to cut on with
the metal shear. Now that you have your piece, you will cut out
the stencil and use it to trace the shape. Make sure that you are
able to clearly see the star shape.
Step 13: Cutting and Center Punch the Star
Now that you have traced the shape of star, it is now time to use tin snips to
cut the star out. When you are cutting the start you have to wear gloves and
eye protection. After you have cut out the star you will use a ruler or square
and the corner of the table to find the center point. Like the circles you will
have to draw two line from the corner of the table in order to find your center
point. Once you have marked the center point you will use a center punch and
hammer you make your mark. When you are going to center punch make sure
that you line up the point of the center punch on the center mark and give it
one solid tap.
Step 14: Drilling the Hole and Detailing the Star
Now that we have center punch the guide hole you are going to use the ⅛
drill bit to drill the hole. When you are going to drill the star make sure that
you have a material underneath the star that the drill bit can enter once it
drills through the star. Once you have drilled the hole you will start to detail
the arms of the star like the pedals. So you will use a chipping (welding)
hammer and a anvil to put the line type details on the star. Once you have
completed this step you will use the vice to squeeze and around the arms of
the star.
