Lesson Plan in Mathematics for Grade 2

I. Objectives
At the end of the lesson, the pupils are expected to:
 Visualize and identify the numerator and denominator in a fraction.
 Read and write fractions.
 Practice the habit of cooperation.

II. Subject Matter

A. Topic: Fractions
B. REFERENCE
Book: Exploring Math Possibilities 2
C. Materials
Cartolina Chalk
Pentelpen Blockboard
Picture of Examples Flashcards of Fractions
D. Value: Cooperation

III. Procedures
A. Preparatory Activities
1. Review
2. Motivation
The teacher will play a song entitled Fractions-Fractions Song. The
students are able to sing and dance.

B. Developmental Activities
1. Presentation
a. Setting of Standards
The teacher will give the set of standards in class. Work quietly, be
cooperative, maintain orderliness, and keep the working area clean.
2. Activity
Show a pizza model.
Marina bought a pizza and decided to share it with her friend Dolly. She
was thinking whether the pizza would be divided equally or not.

A B
Which pizza was cut equally?

Pizza A shows that the pie is cut into equal parts, while pizza B shows that
it is not cut in equal parts. A whole can be cut into equal parts.

3. Analysis
 What you have notice on the song and activity we did?
 Do you have any idea about our topic for today?

4. Abstraction

A fraction is a number showing one or more equal parts of a whole.

Example: 1/3, ¾, 2/3, 1/5
The numerator tells the number of shaded parts or parts considered.
The denominator tells the number of equal parts a whole is divided.
Example:

1 > tells how many parts are shaded or considered.

2 > tells how many equal parts there are in the whole.
 Halves
Here is a pizza. Each part is half of the pizza.
We write this as:

Number of parts considered

1
Number of equal parts 2
whole is divided

We say “one-half” and we write ½.

½ ½
Half Half 1 Whole

 Thirds
Here is a chocolate bar and it is divided into three equal parts.
Each part is a third of the whole.

We say “one-third” and we write 1/3.

1 1
3 3

2 of 3 equal parts is two-thirds and

We write 2/3. 1
3
1/3 And 1/3 and 1/3 is

Three – third makes a whole or 3/3 = 1 whole

5. Application
Fraction Color Wheel!
The students will group into 3. Each group has its own white board and
pentel pen. The teacher is the one who will start the wheel. To what ever the
arrow stops the student must be write their answer on the white board, after 15
seconds they will raise the board.

C. Concluding Activities
a. Generalization
1. It is a number showing one or more equal parts of a whole?
2. It tells the number of shaded parts or parts considered?
3. It tells the number of equal parts a whole is divided?

The teacher will show flashcards of fractions. The students will read and answer.

IV. Evaluation
V. Assignment
Identify something in your home that could divide into fractions, such as
crayons or pizza and divide. Draw their fraction or take a picture to share.
