Harmóniasértő Igék
Harmóniasértő Igék
(Harmóniasértő igék)
There is a group of verbs that seems to contradict the rules of vowel harmony because they
contain only front vowels (ír – write, hív – invite, nyit – open) but take back vowel endings
(for example: írok, hívok, nyitok in the first person singular). The explanaBon of this – along
many other irregulariBes – lies in the phonological changes that have taken place throughout
the history of the Hungarian language.
