How do we form the plural of nouns?
Most nouns form their plural by adding -s or -es. Be mindful of the
spelling! Let us check what you know about plural nouns.

RULE 2. Form the plurals of nouns ending in sh, ch, x, s, and z, by
adding es to the singular.
Examples: lunch—lunches, dish—dishes, fox—foxes

C. Form the plural of the ff. nouns: city, story, family, puppy, lily, Seatwork 2.D.
RULE 3. Common nouns that end in y—that comes after a consonant
—are formed by changing the y to i and adding es.

D. Form the plural of the ff. nouns: bay, tray, toy, clay, key
RULE 4. Form the plural of nouns that end in y—before a vowel—by
adding only an s.
Examples: donkey — donkeys, monkey — monkeys, day — days

E. Form the plural of the ff. nouns: shelf, calf, thief, wife, life

RULE 5. Form the plural of most nouns ending in -f or -fe by changing

f to v then add -es.
Examples: half – halves knife – knives

F. Form the plural of the ff. nouns: potato, echo, barrio, bamboo, polo

RULE 6. The plurals of nouns ending in o—before by a vowel—are

formed by adding an s.
Examples: radio—radios piano—pianos

The plurals of most nouns ending in o—before by a consonant—are

formed by adding es.
Examples: hero — heroes tomato - tomatoes

RULE 7. Some nouns change its plural by changing its spelling:

RULE 8. Some nouns do not change at all when made plural. Many of
these are names for animals.
