TEACHER’S ACTIVITY STUDENTS’ ACTIVITY

A. PREPARATORY ACTIVITY

1. Prayer

May I request everyone to stand for In the name of the Father, the Son, the Holy
the opening prayer. Please lead the Spirit, Amen…
prayer,_________.

2. Greetings

Good morning, Class! Good morning, Sir!

How are you this Morning? We are all fine, Sir!

Amazing! That is so nice to hear from

all of you.

3. Attendance

Are there any absentees for today? None Sir!

That’s great, let’s give ourselves a (Students clap their hands)

round of applause.

4. Agreement

Before we proceed with our new

lesson, let us first recall our
classroom rules. Who can give me
the first rule? Sit properly.

Correct. What else? Be quite

Listened attentively.
Participate in class discussion.

Alright. Very good

B. ELICIT

Now, who can tell me what was our

previous topic all about?

Anyone? Yes_________
The lesson that we tackled last meeting was all
about Uniformly Accelerated Motion: Vertical
Dimension.
In free fall, what is the only force acting on
the body? Acceleration due to gravity sir.

That’s correct!
How about the initial velocity of a free-
falling body? It is 0 m/s

Very good.

And since we are already done with our

topic last meeting, we are going to tackle
new lesson for today.

C. ENGAGE

1. Motivation

We will have another activity and we will

call this “Guess the Gibberish!!”

Are you familiar with this game? Yes, sir.

DIRECTION: Guess the phrases that are in

gibberish. To know the answer think of a
word that has exactly the same sound as
the words provided.
(Expected Answers:)
1. MEN MOON TOMB 1. Momentum
2. AIM PLOSS 2. Impulse
3. COLD AISH AND 3. Collision
4. BASS END VAIL OFF CITY 4. Mass and velocity
5. OHM BEE EJECT 5. Object

Are we clear? Yes, sir.

For the first word, what do you think it is?

The second one? Yes ________.

How about the third, forth, and the last

one?

Amazing work everyone!

2. Presentation

Now what do you think could be our lesson

for today? Do you have an idea?

Yes _________
Sir, our lesson for today is all about Impulse and
Momentum
Precisely! Our lesson for today is about
Impulse and Momentum.

So here is our objectives for today.

Learning Objectives:
Kindly read the first objective _______ 1. Relate Impulse and Momentum to
collision of objects.
What about the second one?, 2. Solve problems applying the concept of
Yes______ momentum and impulse.
3. Cite real life examples of momentum
And for our last objective, Yes,_______ and impulse.

D. EXPLORE

I have prepared a video presentation,

and I want you to listen carefully
because afterwards we will be having an
activity. Is that clear?

(The teacher will play a short video clip

about Momentum and Impulse.)

We will have another activity, this

activity is called “EGGty Dumpty
Challenge”. I will group you into three
groups.

DIRECTION: Using the provided

materials, construct a device that will
safely catch an egg that will dropped
from a predetermined height. The egg
can be cracked, but no yolk may be
coming out.

But these materials does not come for

free. You will have to buy it from me. You
have to fill out the materials order form
with the number of each item. Each group
will only have 100 pesos to spend. Use the
materials carefully, as they will not be
replaced if you damage them.

The group that will have a less total cost

will be our winner.

Are you ready? Yes, sir.

Your output shall be evaluated and

presented through this rubric.
(The students will do and present their activity)
(Shows the Rubrics)

E. EXPLAIN

Our topic for today is all about Impulse and

Momentum.

I want you to take a look at these

illustration we have on the screen.

(Shows illustration)

What do you see in the picture? Sir, there is a picture of a truck and a car.

Alright! Now, let’s say that these two

vehicles are moving and suddenly they lose
their brakes and hit against the wall. Which
do you think of the two collisions would
result to more damage?

Yes__________ Sir, the truck

What factor did you consider in deciding

your answer?

Keep you answers for now.

Let us first discuss momentum.

So what is Momentum?

Momentum - is a moving object’s

tendency to resist any change in its state of
motion.
- inertia in motion

It basically tells us how difficult it is to stop

a moving object.

Momentum depends on two factors, those

factors are mass and velocity.

(Shows illustration)

If both truck and car are moving at the

same velocity and they both lose their
brakes. The truck will cause more damage
on the wall because it is more massive.

The formula for momentum is

p = mv
Where p is the momentum, m for what?,
and v for?
Mass and Velocity
Let’s try to solve problems involving
momentum.

(Shows sample problem)

What is the momentum of a 22 kg grocery

cart which travels at 1.2 m/s?

Try to answer this problem.

What is the answer?

1. Given:
m = 22 kg
v = 1.2 m/s
p=?

Yes you are right! The answer is 26.4 kg.m/s

Now we’ll discuss about impulse.

Impulse - in physics, an external force

acting on an object over a specific time
leads to a change in momentum of the
object.

Given this definition we will arrive at this

formulas
I = Ft
Ft = p
Ft = m(vƒ-vi)

Let’s try to solve problems involving

Impulse.

(Shows sample problem)

A cart is pushed with a force of 25 N in 4

seconds which caused it to move. What is 2. Given:
the impulse imparted on the cart? F = 25 N
t=4s
I=?

Changes in momentum happen every time,

and so momentum and impulse actually
has a lot of application in real life.

So in the vehicles there are a lot of

features installed to decrease the damage
which maybe a result of possible accidents
or collisions.

Usually in cars what do you see often that

is installed to decrease the damage if
there’s an accident?

Yes_________
Seat belts and Airbag sir.
Yes that is correct!

F. ELABORATE

1. Generalization

Again, What is Momentum? Momentum is a tendency of an object to stay

moving.

What are the two factors affecting The two factors affecting Momentum are the mass
Momentum? and velocity.

Last question, What is Impulse? Impulse is the change in Momentum.

Very good students.

2. Application

Now we are going to have a new activity

which we will call “Let ‘em Discuss”. But
first I will group you into three groups.

Kindly read the directions_____

DIRECTIONS: Each group will be given a

scenario to discuss with their groups.
Choose a representative from the group to
present their output.

1. Scenario 1 (Group 1)
Using the concepts of momentum and
impulse in physics and using what we
have discussed in the egg example
describe some attributes of a car that
will help decrease incidence of injury in
collision. Also explain how they work
using the terms momentum, impulse,
velocity, mass, time, and force.

2. Scenario 2 (Group 2)
If your group was in charge of
designing the surface of a new child’s
playground what kind of material
would you use and why? Explain your
answer by using physics term we
talked about such as momentum,
impulse, velocity, mass, time, and
force.
3. Scenario 3 (Group 3)
If your group was in a water balloon
throwing competition where you had
to throw full water balloons between
your group members at increasing
distances while trying not to break
them how would you use physics to
help you win? Explain your answer by
using terms we talked about in the
class such as momentum, impulse,
velocity, mass, time, and force.

You may now start with your activity.

(Students present their works)
Amazing work everyone!

G. EVALUATE

And now that we are done with our

activity, Let us test if you have gained
something from our topic. I will be
distributing you these answer sheets for
you to answer. You will only be given 15
minutes to answer.

Am I clear? Yes, sir!

You may now start answering.
