The teacher will begin by briefly recapping the previous lesson on research methodology
and the importance of clarity in research papers. Introduce the topic of defining terms in
research papers.
ENGAGE
Reveal Me: This activity the students must have to reveal the meaning of the given words
provided by the teacher.
Directions: The class will be divided into two groups, and each group will have a
representative to save their group and provide the meaning of the words given by the
teacher. Before the representatives answer the question, they must flip the bottle first, and
the first bottle to stand up first will be the one to answer.

EXPLORE
Definition of terms in a research paper refers to the clarification and explanation of key
concepts, terms, and terminology used in the study. It helps readers understand the specific
meanings and context of these terms within the research.
Types and Functions
➢ Conceptual Definition
Refers to the dictionary meaning.
➢ Operational Definition
The meaning of the concept or terms as used in a particular study.
How is it made?
  Identify the characteristic of interest. Identify the characteristic to be measured or
the defect type of concern.
 Select the measuring instrument
 Describe the test method.
 State the decision criteria.
 Document the operational definition
 Test the operational definition.

For example, in a study of stress in students during a university semester, a conceptual

definition would describe what is meant by 'stress'. An operational definition would
describe how the 'stress' would be measured.
