Sound temperature is a sound term that defined as:
Heat is a form of
kinetic energy, just
like sound. So as
molecules vibrate
faster, and heat
increases, sound
can travel faster;
however, the speed
of sound can also
be affected by
humidity and air
pressure.
ELABORATE 10 minutes
The students will explain the statement: Activity notebook
Porous blankets of snow tend to absorb sound waves. While this
dampens local background noises, it can, as a result, enhance the
perception of loud noises, like airplane takeoffs, at a distance.
The students will describe and compare the speed of sound in hot and
cold temperatures.
