Time Allotment August 2, 2019, 60 minutes / 8 – Daffodil – 12:20 – 1:20
Performance Standards
Discuss technologies that make use of sound waves (e.g. Sonar, Ultrasound, Medical Imaging etc.)

Learning Competencies and Objectives

Investigates the effect of temperature to speed of sound through testing
Code: S8FE - Ie – 25

ELICIT 5 minutes MATERIALS

 The teacher will facilitate the review on speed of sound in three  Learner’s material
different media (solid, liquid and gas)  Activity notebook
ENGAGE 5 minutes
 The students will distinguish between hot temperature, room  Learner’s material
temperature and cold temperature  Activity notebook
 The teacher will discuss the objectives of the activity and some  Materials needed in the
precautionary measures to be observed while doing the activity. activity as stated in the
LM.

EXPLORE 20 MINUTES
 Let the students perform the activity following the procedure.  Learner’s Material
 Students will answer the question:  Materials needed for
Question Category the activity
What is Sound  Activity notebook
temperature?
Sound temperature is a sound term that  defined as:
Heat is a form of
kinetic energy, just
like sound. So as
molecules vibrate
faster, and heat
increases, sound
can travel faster;
however, the speed
of sound can also
be affected by
humidity and air
pressure.

LS: Defining Format for Clarity

Contextualization
EXPLAIN 10 minutes
The student will answer the guide questions in the activity and discuss it on Activity Notebook
the board. Blackboard / chalk

ELABORATE 10 minutes
 The students will explain the statement: Activity notebook
Porous blankets of snow tend to absorb sound waves. While this
dampens local background noises, it can, as a result, enhance the
perception of loud noises, like airplane takeoffs, at a distance.
 The students will describe and compare the speed of sound in hot and
cold temperatures.

EVALUATE
The students will watch the following video and make a reaction to it. Activity Notebook
