Investigative Report
REPORT ON AN INVESTIGATION INTO POSSIBLE BENEFITS OF INTRODUCING A
BUILDING FOR REHEBILITATION CENTRE AT THE UNIVERSITY OF MALUSI.

1. Terms of Reference
On 16 February 2024, the Department of Student Support at the University of Malusi,
requested an investigation into the possibility of building the rehabilitation centre in
one of the University campuses. A recommendation to be submitted to the
Chairperson of Student Support Committee, Mr Dube by 30 May 2024.
2. Procedure

The procedure followed to collect the necessary information were:

2.1 An interview and research were conducted with 45% of students to discover the high
rate of drug addiction and building projects at the university.

2.2 Personal visits were conducted at neighboring high schools to discover students
who are drug addicts and percentage of drop out they receive every year.

2.3 Questioners were distributed to all students and stuff for completion.

2.4 The Student Support Committee together with SRC held a meeting to identify a
Suitable location to build the rehabilitation centre on one of the campuses.

3. Findings

Based on the procedure listed above, the following was found:

3.1 Based on the research and interview conducted, 26% high rate of students
are drug addicts and 5% drop out. This has negatively impacted University’s pass
rate and growth.

3.2 Neighboring High Schools have been affected by drug addiction for so long, with this
project of building rehabilitation centre, it will implement students from losing their
future. The project will have good impact at the schools, parents and principals are
thrilled with the idea, knowing that they will be assisted with this matter.

3.3 From the completed questionnaires received, 90% of students were excited about
building the rehabilitation centre and 10% said due to the issue of drug addiction,
students are now focused on awareness campaign. They feel that studies are
neglected. Though 90% of students believe that they need to be educated about
drug addiction, also those who are survivors and some students have family
members who went through this journey or going through will get the help they need.
3.4 The Student Support Committee together with SRC finally agreed on the location to
begin the project of building a rehabilitation centre. The centre will make urge
difference at the university, all professionals will be invited to assist at the centre and
students will get help as soon as been observed using drugs.

4. Conclusion
From the findings above, the following conclusion was reached.

4.1 Based on site visits and meeting with neighboring schools is so much needed that
they can be assisted. the complaints received from the schools shows how much
they needed support.
They really need to consider the project as soon as possible; it will help to bring back
the dignity at schools.

4.2 Based on the questionnaire it is important for the university to consider building
rehabilitation centre to implement the usage of drugs at schools and university.
Many students will be saved from this project those who were tempted to try using
drugs, will begin to realise how necessary it is to be cautious. it was noted that most
students are affected by drugs, and this impact students’ studies negatively.

4.3 Building the Rehabilitation Centre at the campus will mean that students who are
addicts can be assisted withing the premises. It will save them to pay urge amount
that some do not have.
Launching awareness like this will influence students who are addicts to become
clean, due to the effort they will be seeing from their fellow students and
management. When action been done changes become necessary.

5. Recommendation
It is recommended that:

5.1 The University should begin the project of building the rehabilitation centre.

5.2 The students should be notified of the progress of building the centre.
5.3 The Students Support Committee should sit on and discuss a way forward.
Communicate the necessary details needed for the project to be successful.
