FUNDAMENTALS OF ENTREPRENEURSHIP

Executive Summary

The business activities that have been carried out by the subject Fundamentals
of Entrepreneur are intended to expose students to identify business opportunities in
the real world. Entrepreneurs offer products or services that can be marketed to
those who are interested buyers in a situation called a business opportunity. Thus, it
is clear that the main task of an entrepreneur is to provide new and creative ideas.

So, given this opportunity, I decided to sell a biscuits. At first, my business was
just the usual chocolate chip cookies and it was very easy to find in any other store,
so it didn’t make my business unique or attract any of customers. Coincidentally, my
business period will take place two weeks before Eid, so on that occasion I have
taken some stock of Raya Biscuits from a supplier who is a good friend of me. The
biscuits I took from the supplier were Homemade Premium Cookies, all the
processes from buying the raw materials to the ready -made biscuits were made by
Ms. Raja Nur Nadia herself.

The total amount of raya biscuits I took was divided into four types namely Red
Velvet cookies, Cappuccino Cookies, Dahlia, and Sarang Semut. Each type of raya
biscuits, I have ordered in the same amounts from supplier. The price I put is the
standard price which is not too expensive and not too cheap. This is because my
target market is my own neighborhood which is women and men in their 30s and
above. Therefore, I promote my Raya biscuits in the Whats app group as well as face
to face with them.

All of this was my first experience in the business world, although there were a
few challenges I had to go through, I was still happy with the product I chose and the
profits I made. In addition, I have learned to create a logo for my business, identify
the differences between a business account and a way to communicate with
customers face -to -face.

1.0 PROJECT DESCRIPTION

The product that I sell for this entrepreneurial project is Homemade Premium
Cookie or more specifically homemade raya biscuits. There are four types of raya
biscuits that my customers can choose from, namely Red Velvet cookies,
Cappuccino Cookies, Dahlia, and Sarang Semut. My purpose in selling these raya
biscuits is because Muslims will be celebrating Eid, so this idea came naturally. Not
to forget also, my main purpose is to get side incomes after considering a lot of
money has to be spent after staying in college. I also want to help my mother who is
a single mother of three children, each of whom is still a student including myself.
This opportunity I got was able to reduce my mom’s burden, it has also increased my
business knowledge which I rarely got before.

This business has been run online and offline, for online promotion I only use the
Whats app application by posting about my raya biscuits in the status and also in the
Whats app group that I have. I did not expect, by just promoting in Whats app, my
business got an unexpected response. For face -to -face promotion, I went from
house to house in my own neighborhood located in Taman Batu Muda to sell these
biscuits, the purpose of which I chose to promote like this because I am considerate
of senior citizens who do not have a phone.

Based on what I mentioned earlier, the idea of making a raya biscuit business
had come two weeks before Hari Raya. So, over the course of those two weeks, I
have started promotions, stock picking and even shipping to my customers.
Specifically, my business operates from April 17, 2022 to May 1, 2022. The first five
days of this period I have used to take stock of raya from my supplier named Raja
Nur Nadia who is the founder of 8 princess cookies. She has started this raya biscuit
business since 2005 and I am one of her customers. I was interested in taking stock

from her because I found out she sells high demand raya biscuits during Eid. The
price offered to me for resale was also very worth it and profitable. She has sold me
RM 25.00 to RM 30.00 per jar, while I will resell to customers for RM 30.00 to RM
35.00 per jar of raya biscuits.

For target customers, I prefer to sell these biscuits to adult men and women, this
is because it has become a habit that these people who always buy Raya biscuits
during Eid festival and not teenagers. Because of that, I don’t promote these raya
biscuits to a friend of mine who is in college. Through a survey I did myself, a friend
of mine found that the price of the raya biscuits was less suitable to be promoted to
them, as they were not the working group like adults. So, I changed my target market
to those in their 30s and above. Next, for payment method, I only accept cash on
delivery payment because it is easy for me to calculate the money coming in and out
as well as making it easier for the elderly who want to buy my products.

Then, for the delivery of the my raya biscuits, I personally delivered them to the
customer’s house, as all my customers were from my own neighborhood. There are
no shipping charges that I impose on my customers, this is because I do not use any
postal services like J&T, Pos laju and DHL, I only use my own energy to send raya
biscuits to their house.

3.0 PROJECT OUTCOMES

Throughout the business, I have managed to sell all the jars, which is 20 jars of
raya biscuits. For me, the profits made were worth it with the duration of my business
that lasted for two weeks, I have also gotten a return on capital, commensurate with
the money I went out to buy stock. Also, the total number of customers I got was 17
people, all of them including online and face -to -face customers. I have spent my
own money of RM 525 to by a stock and made a profit of RM 625, from the sale of 20
jars of Raya biscuits. After making the calculation, I have a net profit of RM100.

Moreover, the attitude of the customers who buy from me is indeed a good
attitude and easy to negotiate, none of them have trouble making payment. Because
of that, my business is running smoothly and successfully.

4.0 EXPERIETIAL LEARNING

Overall, I admit that I have gained experience from the entrepreneurship project
that was given by the ENT300 subject lecturer. At first I was a person who didn’t like
to trade, I realized that I was lacking in this business because I had lost money while
trading on Entrepreneurship Day during my high school days. The experience has
been a nightmare for me to face this project, but with the help of Mrs. Marini, I am
more confident to try to start a business even in a short time.

Among the problems I experienced before starting a business was the selection
of the products I wanted to use for the business, until the idea came naturally. In
addition, I have found many suppliers who offer prices that are too expensive for me
to buy, as the amount of capital that can be issued is limited. So it is quite difficult to
find a supplier in a short period of time. Yet I was lucky because there was a friend
who was a raya biscuit trader who wanted to be my supplier at a price I could afford.

I also learned that we need to be kind and polite to customers even if those
customers are our contacts. This is because we will be responded well by customers
if we also serve them well. Although this is my first business I have no problems with
customers, but maybe I need to be prepared in the future if I want to start any kind of
business again. Among other things I also learned need to always be confident in
myself and not belittle. My insecure attitude has created anxiety because I am afraid
that no one will want to buy my product, even though there are people who will
support me.

Finally, I have learned many invaluable lessons to apply in my life in the future. I
am also very grateful so that my family always gives me supportive advice about the
raya biscuit business. Also, I can conclude here that business is not only profitable
but it also teaches a lot in various aspects like promoting and marketing. So, I feel
very grateful because I learned so much from business.
