I. OBJECTIVES At the end of the lesson, learners are expected to Summarize text types based on
elements.
A. Content Standard The learner demonstrates an understanding of text elements to comprehend various
texts.
B. Performance Standards The learner uses knowledge of text types to correctly distinguish literary from
informational texts.

C. Learning Competencies Identify the elements of literary texts (EN5LC-Ib-d-2.17.1-3);


summarize narrative texts based on elements: theme, setting, characters,
plot (EN5RC-Ic-d-2.23);
 Recognize the steps in summarizing;
 Infer the theme of literary text (EN5RC-Ib-2.9.1);
 Summarize information from various text types (EN5LC-IVf-j-3.13).

IV. PROCEDURES
A. Reviewing Previous Lesson or PRELIMINARY ACTIVITIES

will be your teacher for today.”

2. Review
The teacher asks the pupils for what were discussed in the previous lesson:
Distinguish text-types according to purpose and features: classification, explanation,
enumeration and time order.

Summarizing – is the act of short retelling of a story or a text that only includes the
most important information.

Also, discussion of the teacher on the steps on how to summarize texts.


Ask individual learners to read the presented slides and ask them if they are doing
the same thing when they are telling a shorten versions of a story they tell to their
friends.
E. Discussing new concept and The teacher now moves to the next topic which is the 2 text-types; Factual/Non-
practicing new skills 2 fiction and the Literary/Fiction.

The teacher then presents an exercise where the students need to identify which of
the two text types are defined by the sentence/phrase.

After elaborating the reasons why the answers are so, the teacher now discusses
about the narative text. He will let a student to read the slide provided with the
definition of a narative text and its examples.

Then, the teacher moves on the elements of a narrative text; Character, Setting,
Mood, Theme, Plot, Conflict and explain each elements one by one.
The teacher then proceeds to the next text type which is the poetry text. He now let
the students to read in chorus the definition of it.

After the definition the teacher will present the a poem and emphasize the elements
that consist a poem.

The teacher will group the students into 5 groups. After the groupings are settled. He
will now give them posters/pictures of famous stories.
Every group will be given time to evaluate the given poster/picture to give the
following details:
 Title
 Character
 Setting
 Mood
 Theme
 Conflict
 Plot
 And the summary of the story
G. Finding practical application of Why do we need to be knowledgeable about summarizing different types of text
concepts and skills in daily types?
