INTRODUCTION

The correct alignment of the lower connecting rod bearing shells is of great importance for
trouble-free operation of the reassembled connecting rod.

This Service Bulletin should be kept in a separate file in the control room. The respective pages or
tables of the Service Bulletin with modifications to the Operating Manual, Maintenance Manual
or Code Book should be copied and filed in the respective Manual or Book.

1. NEW MOUNTING DEVICE

With the existing device (Tool No. 47) the upper bearing shell can be misaligned to the lower half due
to the lack of lateral guidance.

A new mounting device has been designed which fixes the position of the bearing shells with respect
to the connecting rod. This tool facilitates the assembly of the lower connecting rod bearing
considerably and ensures correct alignment of the bearing shells.

2. APPLICATION

This new device is available under the tool No.47 modified and should be used for any future lower
bearing assembly on the connecting rod type 4. The new tool will be applied as the previous one.

This tool is available through New Sulzer Diesel After Sales Service or their Representatives.
