ABOUT SIKKIM
Sikkim is sheer magic. This is not just the most beautiful place in the world
but cleanest and safest too. If once the charms of the State was limited to
mists, mountains and colourful butterflies, they are
now complimented by tangible development and progress.

GEOGRAPHICAL LOCATION
Sikkim is a northeastern state of India.
It borders China in its north and east, Bhutan in
its east, Nepal in its west and the Indian state of
West Bengal in its south. Sikkim is the least
populous and second smallest among the Indian
states. A part of the Eastern Himalaya, Sikkim is
notable for its biodiversity, including alpine and
subtropical climates, as well as being a host to
Kanchenjunga, the highest peak in India and
third highest on Earth. Sikkim's capital and
largest city is Gangtok.
Despite being a hilly state, transportation of Sikkim is
much convenient and frequent.

Air
The nearest airport is Bagdogra,
Airlines include almost all other domestic airlines
such as Jet Airways, AirIndia, Go Air run regular
flights from the major cities of India such as Delhi,

Helicopter Service
From Bagdogra, one can also avail the
Helicopter service to reach Gangtok within 20 minutes
only. However, the service completely depends on
weather conditions.

Train
New Jalpaiguri (NJP) & Siliguri are the two
major railway stations Nearest to Sikkim. NJP is 125
Kms and Siliguri is 114Kms from the capital city
Gangtok and is well-connected to all the major cities
such as Delhi and Kolkata.

By Road
Gangtok is well-connected by road to
Darjeeling, Siliguri, Kalimpong, and also to other
district headquarters within Sikkim. Regular bus
service operated by (Sikkim Nationalized Transport
(SNT) from Gangtok to all major cities and towns in
North Bengal and state.
It offers a unique shopping experience as well to its visitors. The happy people of
Sikkimcelebrates its rich culture by dressing up colourfully and wearing equally
beautiful jewellery, that demand for extra space in your luggage while going back.

FOR SHOPPING
1. MG Road
MG Road in Sikkim is located in MG Marg, Gangtok. It is an open
mall in the heart of the city, and acts as the hotspot for all major
shops, restaurants etc. in Gangtok. MG Road is largely famous for
traditional Sikkimese cups, Thangkas and Choksi table designs.
Apart from that, you can also shop for garments, souvenirs,
trinkets, accessories, footwear and more. It is surely one of the
best places for handicrafts shopping at Sikkim.
2.New market
Located in East Sikkim, Lal Bazaar is fondly known as the soul
of Sikkim's kitchen. It is the best place to shop for organic and
farm products. The products are sold fresh from the market by
local villagers. Take a walk down the streets of this flea market
to shop for dried fish and exotic eatables.

It is one of the liveliest shopping places in Sikkim. Located in
MG Marg, Old Market is famous for fashion wear and accessories.

popular for its natural beauty but also a destination radiant with
impressive handicrafts. In order to preserve and promote this traditional
art of Sikkim, the Sikkim Government is establishing several platforms in
the form of Handicraft and Handloom Institutes.

FLORA AND FAUNA


Sikkim is blessed with some rare and exotic flora and fauna which
features 5000 species of flowering plant, 515 rare orchids, 60 primula
species, and 36 rhododendron species. This makes it one of the
leading states in the region in terms of production and supply of cut
flowers to mainland consumer markets.
