Baby dress, headband and booties pattern

Skill Level: Intermediate

Size:
for 0-6 Months, 16’’-18’’ chest,

(Can be made bigger using a size 5 mm crochet hook to make in size 6-12 months to
fit 18”- 20”chest)

Material:

100 grams ball of King Cole, Light weight Double knitting, 4 ply yarn in two colours,
colour A and B, abbreviated as CA (white) and CB (yellow), CC (burnt orange), CD
(purple) and CE (grass green). 8 lady bird buttons.

4mm crochet hook for 0-6 months

5mm Crochet hook for 6-12 Months

Gauge: ​
15 dc = 3 inches

4 rows of dc = 3 inches.

This pattern is written in standard American crochet abbreviations. Adjustment


for left handed crocheters are in parentheses.

Stitches and abbreviations used:

Chains= ch Right Side = RS

Single crochet = sc Wrong Side = WS

Double crochet= dc 3dc Shells = 3dc, ch2, 3dc

Stitches = sts Half double crochet = hdc

Slip stitch = sl st Big Flower = *ch3, dc, ch3* 6 times

Skip = sk Small Flower = *ch2, dc, ch2* 6 times


Bodice
Foundation Row: ​ With CA​ do 72 foundation dc (pattern below) for the foundation

row (optional, you can ch 74, dc in the 3ch from the hook, dc across to make 72
dc). Join in with a sl st. With the help of the tail at the beginning, join the top end
of the first fdc with a sl st. Don’t turn.

Foundation dc: ​ ch2, yo, insert the hook into the second ch from the hook, yo, draw up a
loop, yo, and draw through one loop on your hook, (first ch st. made, for next foundation dc
we are going to insert the hook in this st. only), yo, draw through 2 loops on the hook, yo,
draw through 2 loops on the hook (first foundation dc made).
Next Foundation dc:​insert the hook in the under the two loops of the ch st, yo, draw up
a loop, yo, draw through one loop, (second ch st. made), yo,draw through two loops, yo, draw
through the last two loops on the hook. Second foundation dc made. Repeat this pattern 70
more times. 72 fdc made.)

Round 2: ​ ch3, (counts as first dc), dc in each of the next 71 sts. Join in with a sl
st in the top of the first ch3. (72 dc made)
Round 3-5:​ Repeat round 2 (72 dc made)
Round 6:​ Ch5, (counts as first dc and a ch2 sp), sk 2 sts, dc in the next st. *Ch 2,
sk 2 st, dc in the next st* repeat from *to* 21 more times, ch2, sk next 2 sts, sl st
in the top of the first ch3, sl st to the ch2 sp. (24 ch2 spaces, and 24 dc made)
This completes the bodice.

Round 7​: Ch3 (counts as first dc), 2dc, ch2, 3dc (first 3dc shell made), 3dc shell in
the each of the next 23 dc. Join in with a sl st in top of the first ch3. Sl st to the
ch2 sp of the same shell. (24 3dc shells made)

Round 8:​ch3 (counts as first dc), 2dc, ch2, 3dc (first 3dc shell made), 3dc shell in
the each of the next 23 3 dc shell. Join in with a sl st in top of the first ch3. Sl st
to the ch2 sp of the same shell. (24 3dc shells made)

Round 9-12:​ Repeat round 8. This completes the dress length for 0-3 months. For
3-6 months continue to round 13 & 14 repeating round 8. For 6-12 months size,
continue to round 15 & 16, repeating round 8. ​
Fasten off.

Edging
Step 1:​ With CE, do a magic circle, *ch3, dc, ch3, sl st into the magic circle* twice
(petal no. 1 & 2 made) , ch3, dc, drop the st off the hook, insert the hook into the
middle dc of the 3dc at the left (right for left handed crocheters) in the centre
3dc shell, pull the dropped stitch through , ch 3, sl st into the magic circle, (petal
no. 3 made), ch3, dc, drop the st off the hook, insert the hook into the middle dc
of the 3dc at the right (left for left handed crocheters) in the centre 3dc shell,
pull the dropped stitch through , ch 3, sl st into the magic circle, (petal no. 4
made).

*Ch3, dc, ch3, sl st into the magic circle* 2 more times, ( petal no.5 and 6 Made)
fasten off. Please see photo 2 for guidance.

Step 2:​ With CB, do a magic circle, *ch3, dc, ch3, sl st into the magic circle*
twice, ch3, dc, drop the st off the hook, insert the hook into the dc of the 5th
petal of the last flower, pull the dropped stitch through, ch3, sl st into the magic
circle, ch3 , dc, drop the st off the hook (3rd petal made) insert the hook into the
middle dc of the 3dc on the left (right for left handed crocheters) of the next
3dc shell, pull the dropped stitch through , ch 3, sl st into the magic circle, (petal
no. 4 made), ch3, dc, drop the st off the hook, insert the hook into the middle dc
of the 3dc at the right (left for left handed crocheters) in the centre 3dc shell,
pull the dropped stitch through (petal no. 5 made) , ch 3, sl st into the magic circle,
ch3, dc, ch3, sl st into the magic circle ( petal no.6 Made) fasten off.

Step 3:​ With CC, do a magic circle, *ch3, dc, ch3, sl st into the magic circle*
twice, ch3, dc, drop the st off the hook, insert the hook into the dc of the 6th
petal of the last flower, pull the dropped st through, ch 3, sl st into the magic
circle, (3rd petal made) ch3, dc, insert the hook into the middle dc of the 3dc on
the left (right for left handed crocheters) of the next 3dc shell, pull the dropped
stitch through , ch 3, sl st into the magic circle, (petal no. 4 made), ch3, dc, drop
the st off the hook, insert the hook into the middle dc of the 3dc at the right
(left for left handed crocheters) in the centre 3dc shell, pull the dropped stitch
through (petal no. 5 made) , ch 3, sl st into the magic circle, ch3, dc, ch3, sl st into
the magic circle ( petal no.6 Made) fasten off.

Step 4: ​ Repeat Step 3 alternatively with CE, CB and CC 20 more times.


Step 5:​ With CC, do a magic circle, *ch3, dc, ch3, sl st into the magic circle*
twice, ch3, dc, drop the st off the hook, insert the hook into the dc of the 6th
petal of the last flower, pull the dropped st through, ch 3, sl st into the magic
circle, (3rd petal made), ch3, dc, drop the st off the hook, insert the hook into the
middle dc of the 3dc on the left (right for left handed crocheters) of the next
3dc shell, pull the dropped stitch through , ch 3, sl st into the magic circle, (petal
no. 4 made), ch3, dc, drop the st off the hook, insert the hook into the middle dc
of the 3dc at the right(left for left handed crocheters) in the centre 3dc shell,
pull the dropped stitch through (petal no. 5 made) , ch 3, sl st into the magic circle,
ch3, dc, drop the st off the hook, insert the hook into the dc of the 2nd petal of
the first flower, ch3, sl st into the magic circle (petal no.6 Made) fasten off.

Upper Edging : ​
With CE, join with a sl st into the centre back (where we have
been joining all the rounds in the bodice), sc in the same st, *sk 2 sts, 2 dc
together, ch3, sc, ch3, 2 dc together, all in the same st (2 leaves made), sk 2 sts,
sc in the next st* . Repeat from *to * 11 more times. Join with a sl st into first sc.
Fasten off. (12 sets of 2 leaves made)

Straps
Flower 1: ​ With CB, do a magic circle, ch2, hdc, drop the st off the hook, insert
the hook into the sc (we just fastened off from), pull the dropped st through, ch
2, sl st into the magic circle ( 1st petal made), ch2, hdc, drop the st off the hook,
insert the hook into the middle ch of ch3 at the right, pull the dropped st
through, ch 2, sl st into the magic circle (2nd petal made), *ch2, hdc, ch2, sl st into
the magic circle* 3 ( 3rd, 4th and 5th petal made) times, ch2, hdc, drop the st off
the hook, insert the hook into the middle ch of ch3 at the left, pull the dropped st
through, ch2, sl st into the magic circle (6th petal made). Fasten off.
Flower 2: ​ With CD, do a magic circle, ch2, hdc, drop the st off the hook, insert
the hook into the hdc of the 3rd petal of the last flower, pull the dropped st
through, ch 2, sl st into the magic circle ( 1st petal made), *ch2, hdc, ch2, sl st into
the magic circle* 4 times (2nd, 3rd, 4th and 5th petal made), ch2, hdc, drop the st
off the hook, insert the hook into the hdc of 4th (6th petal for left handed
crocheters) petal of the last flower, pull the dropped st through, ch 2, sl st into
the magic circle (6th petal made). Fasten off.
Flower 3:​ With CD, do a magic circle, ch2, hdc, drop the st off the hook, insert
the hook into the hdc of the 4th petal of the first flower, pull the dropped st
through, ch 2, sl st into the magic circle ( 1st petal made), *ch2, hdc, ch2, sl st into
the magic circle* 4 times (2nd, 3rd, 4th and 5th petal made), ch2, hdc, drop the st
off the hook, insert the hook into the hdc of 5th petal of the first flower, pull the
dropped st through, ch 2, sl st into the magic circle (6th petal made). Fasten off.

Now we have 2 flowers in CD attached with the flower in CB. Now we will join
the flowers to each of two flowers in CD in the same way to make 2 straps.

Flower 4 (make 2): ​ With CB, do a magic circle, ch2, hdc, drop the st off the hook,
insert the hook into the hdc of the 3rd petal of the last flower, pull the dropped st
through, ch 2, sl st into the magic circle ( 1st petal made), *ch2, hdc, ch2, sl st into
the magic circle* 4 times (2nd, 3rd, 4th and 5th petal made), ch2, hdc, drop the st
off the hook, insert the hook into the hdc of 4th petal of the last flower, pull the
dropped st through, ch 2, sl st into the magic circle (6th petal made). Fasten off.
Flower 5 ( make 2 in CC) ​ : Repeat the pattern of flower 4.
Flower 6 (make 2 in CD): ​ Repeat the pattern of flower 4.
Flower 7 (make 2 in CC): ​ Repeat the pattern of flower 4.
Flower 8 (make 2 in CD): ​ Repeat the pattern of flower 4.
Flower 9 (make 2 in CB): ​ Repeat the pattern of flower 4.

In the flower 9, join CB with a sl st in the hdc of of the 3rd petal, ch 4, sl st in the
4th petal, fasten off. These ch4 will serve as the button holes for the buttons at
the front.
Sew two lady bird (bug) button at the fronts as shown in picture, and fasten the
straps on the buttons.
Belt:
1st Flower:​​ With CD, do a magic circle, *ch2, hdc, ch2, sl st into the magic circle*
6 times. Fasten off. (6 petals made)
2nd Flower:​ With CC, do a magic circle, *ch2, hdc, ch2, sl st into the magic circle*
twice (1st and 2nd petal made), ch2, hdc, drop the st off the hook, insert the hook
in the 3rd (4th for left handed crocheters) petal of the last flower, pull the st
through, ch2, sl st into the magic circle (3rd petal made), ch2, hdc, drop the st off
the hook, insert the hook in the 4th (3rd for left handed crocheters) petal of the
last flower, pull the st through, ch2, sl st into the magic circle (4th petal made),
*ch2, hdc, ch2, sl st into the magic circle* twice(5th and 6th petal made). Fasten
off.

3rd Flower:​ With CB, Repeat the pattern for 2nd flower.
4th- 18th Flower:​ Repeat the pattern for 2nd flower alternatively with all the
three colours ending with a flower in CD. Fasten off.
With CD, sl st into the 6th petal of the last flower, ch 4, sl st into the 1st petal of
the same flower. Fasten off. One buttonhole made.
Weave the belt through in round 6 and sew a button on 1st flower and fasten the
belt on with the buttonhole.

This completes the dress. Please see photo 7 for guidance.

Headband:
Round 1:​ With CA, do 60 fdc, join with a sl st, join the open end with the tail.
Fasten off.
Round 2:​ With CE, join in with a sl st, 1 sc in each st around. Join in with a sl st in
the first sc.
Round 3:​ Repeat round 2 at the other end.
Flowers: ​Do a magic circle, *ch2, hdc, ch2, sl st into the magic circle* 6 times.
Fasten off.
Make three flowers in CD, CC and CB using the above flower pattern. Sew them on
the headband with the ladybird (bug) buttons on the top.
This completes the headband. Please see photo 8 for guidance.

Booties (make 2):


For 0-3 months size, use size 4 crochet hook, for 3-6 months size use a size 5 mm
hook.

Round 1: ​ With CA ​ ch 10, sc in second ch from the hook, sc in next 7 ch, 5 sc in the
last ch (for toe), working in opposite sides of the chs, sc in next 7 ch, 2 sc in the
last st. Join with sl st in the first sc. (22sc made)

Round 2: Ch 2 (counts as first hdc), hdc in the same st, hdc in the next 7 sts, 2hdc
in each of the next 5 sts, hdc in next 7 sts, 2hdc in each of the last 2 sts, join with
sl st in top of ch 2. (30 hds made)

Round 3: ​ ch2, hdc in the first st, hdc in next 12 sts, 2 hdc in each of the next 3
sts, hdc in next 12 sts, 2 hdc in each of the last 2 sts, join with a sl st. (36 hdc
made)
Round 4-5​
: ch 2, hdc in each st around. This makes the sides.

Round 6: ​ ch 2, hdc in next 11 sts. (dc in next 2 sts together) 6 times, hdc in last 12
sts, join. (30 sts)

Round 7: ​ ch 2, hdc in next 10 sts, (dc next 2 sts together) 4 times, hdc in last 11
sts, join with a sl st, fasten off. (26 sts)

Finishing:
Join in the CE, in the last st, sc in all the 26 sts, fasten off.

Flowers: ​
Do a magic circle, *ch2, hdc, ch2, sl st into the magic circle* 6 times.
Fasten off.

Make three flowers in CD, CC and CB using the above flower pattern. Sew them on
the booties with the ladybird (bug) button on the top of the middle flower.
