The Brigada Eskwela, or Schools Maintenance Week, has been an annual practice of
collaboration among various sectors in the country. This event marks the commencement of r
another school year. People from different walks of life are enjoined to participate in attaining a
common goal, which is to provide a better and more conducive learning environment for the
learners.

The spirit of community and collaboration was active and thriving during the week of
August 14 to August 19, 2023, as we embarked on an empowering journey known as
Brigada Eskwela. This annual event, aimed at preparing schools for the upcoming academic
year, brought together teachers, parents, and students to create an environment that is not
only conducive to learning but also brimming with positivity and shared responsibility.
The kick-off event on August 14 set the tone for an impactful week ahead.
Excitement and a sense of purpose filled the air as volunteers gathered to roll up their
sleeves and dedicate their time to a noble cause. The first task on the agenda was the
collection of used papers and materials on August 14. This seemingly simple task held a
deeper significance – it symbolized the unveiling of fresh opportunities and a renewed
commitment to nurturing young minds.
The following day, August 15, witnessed a collective effort to wipe-off all the dirt on
the walls and windows. As these tasks were done, it was evident that change was not only
physical but also symbolic. The classroom was being transformed into a blank canvas, ready
to be adorned with the creative work and achievements of the students.

August 16 marked a day of introspection and organization. Volunteers meticulously

sorted through stacks of papers and instructional materials, making way for new resources.
This process was a metaphorical reflection of the need to let go of the old and embrace the
new – a lesson not only for the classroom but for life itself.
The 17th of August witnessed a splash of colors and a renewed vibrancy as walls
received a fresh coat of paint. It was heartening to witness parents and volunteers working
side by side, painting walls and contributing to the transformation. Amidst the creative
chaos, enrollment assistance was also provided, highlighting the seamless blend of practical
tasks and student-centric activities.
Cleaning surfaces and windows was not just about removing dust and dirt; it was a
gesture of welcoming clarity and a fresh perspective. As parents and volunteers
meticulously cleaned every nook and corner, the collective effort echoed the values of
discipline and attention to detail that we impart to our students.
August 18 continued the momentum as unnecessary cabinets and books were
removed from the classroom. Parents of grade four students actively participated,
demonstrating their dedication not only to their own children but to the entire school
community. Their involvement was a testament to the belief that education is a shared
responsibility, and that by working together, we can create an enriching environment for
our children to flourish.
The final day, August 19, was all about the finishing touches. The classroom was
meticulously arranged to ensure that it was not just aesthetically pleasing, but also safe and
conducive to learning. The child-friendly atmosphere was a result of the combined efforts of
teachers, parents, and volunteers who dedicated their time, skills, and enthusiasm to create
a space where young minds could thrive.
In conclusion, Brigada Eskwela 2023 was more than just a series of tasks completed
over a week. It was a narrative of unity, community, and commitment. The involvement of
parents in every step of the process showcased the power of collaboration in nurturing a
holistic educational environment. As the transformed classrooms stand as a testament to

our collective dedication, they also serve as a reminder that when a community comes
together for a common goal, remarkable transformations are not only possible but
inevitable.
