TITLE OF THE LESSON: Some common diseases in Burkina Faso. (Meningitis, Malaria, AIDS,
Cholera, Tuberculosis, Tetanus, Diabetes)
DURATION OF THE LESSON: 55mns
AIM: To familiarize the students of form I with some common diseases in Burkina Faso for
their daily use.
OBJECTIVES: By the end of the lesson, the students will be able to:
 Pronounce correctly the selected common diseases in Burkina Faso.
 Identify the different items between a set of words.
 Write correctly the names of some common diseases in Burkina Faso
 Build five (05) meaningful sentences using the newly taught items.
PREREQUISITES: The students of form I have already been taught the simple present, the
simple past the articles and some action verbs.
ANTICIPATED PROBLEMS: The students may have problems in pronouncing correctly some
items such as meningitis, cold, tuberculosis, tetanus and diabetes .
ANTICIPATED SOLUTION: The teacher will lay emphasis on the pronunciation of those items.
TEACHING MATERIALS: Board, chalk, bucket of water, and duster.

STAGE I: PRESENTATION (12mns)

Step 2: Procedure (08mns)
LESSON PLAN

The teacher shows the students a paper with the name of the item and pronounces its name
two times. After that, he explains the sense of the name written on the paper, pronounce it
again and he makes the students pronounce chorally, by row and individually. Then, he
writes the name of the item on the board followed by an illustrative example. He proceeds
the same way for the other items.
1) Meningitis
Example: Meningitis is an inflammation of the meninges
2) Malaria
Example: Malaria is caused by a pitting of a mosquito.
3) AIDS
Example: AIDS is transmitted during no protected sex.
4) Cholera
Example: If you drink dirty water you can have cholera.
5) Tuberculosis
Example: Tuberculosis affects the lungs of the sick person.
6) Tetanus
Example: Tetanus is a dangerous for pregnant women.
7) Diabetes
Example: Diabetes is due to the high level of sugar in the human body.
STAGE II: PRACTICE (15mns)
Activity1: Oral and individual (5mns)

Instruction: Pronounce correctly the items written on the paper and say if it is a newly taught
item.

The teacher asks for volunteers to come individually and proceed the same way with the rest
of the papers as he did and assess.
