Nature of the lesson : Vocabulary
Title of the lesson : At the clinic (doctor, patient,
nurse, pharmacist, dentist, medecine, syringe,)

Aim : To familiarize the students of form I with a vocabulary


related to the clinic for their daily communication.
Objectives : By the end of the lesson, students will be able to :
 Pronounce correctly the seven (07) names related to the
clinic
 Identify five (05) namespresented to them
 Write correctly six names taught to them
 Build their own five (05) meaningful sentences using the
different names.

Pre-requisites: students have already been taughtthe simple


present of ordinary verbs and to be.
Anticipated problem :students may confuse some words like
medecine with the French words « medécine » , they may also
have difficulties with the pronunciation of some words like nurse
and dentist.
Anticipated solution: the teacher will clearly explain the
difference between medicine and medécine, and will focus on the
pronunciation of those words.
Teaching materials: board, piece of chalk, bucket of water,
duster, pictures.
Stages
Stage one: Presentation (12 mns)
Step 1: warm-up (03 mns)
- Greeting
- Song (the more we get together)
- Date telling and writing
- Day’s lesson announcement
Step 2: Procedure (09mns)
The teacher shows every picture to the students and pronounce
each name three (03) times then, he makes them pronounce
chorally, per row and individually.
After that, the teacher writes each words on the board with
illustrative sentences and pronounce once more.
A doctor: a doctor prescribes prescriptions.
Patient: a patient goes to hospital to consult.
Nurse: a nurse takes care of people who are sick.
Medecine: we take medicine when we are sick.
Dentist: we go to the dentist’s when we have teeth pain.
Pharmacist: medecines are made by the pharmacist.
Syringe: nurses injects sick persons with syringe.

Stage two: Practice (15 mns)


Activity 1: Oral and individual (05mns)
Step 1: Teacher-students interaction (02 mns)
The teacher shows two (02) pictures to students.
Instruction: Look carefully at these pictures and tell me the
correspnding name.
Step 2: students- students interaction (03mns)
The teacher gives three pictures to three students.
Instruction: Show these pictures to your classmates and ask
them to give the right names.
Activity 2: written and individual (10mns)
Instruction: write the right name in front of each definition
