RESPIRATORY

SYSTEM
JESSICA MEDINA BARRAGAN
SEBASTIAN RAMOS
The respiratory
system, is made up
of multiple organs
that work together
to oxygenate the
body through the
process of
breathing.
The respiratory system is divided into two sections at the level
of the vocal cords; an upper section and a lower section. These
sections are called “tracts.”

UPPER RESPIRATORY
TRACT

LOWER RESPIRATORY
TRACT
Upper respiratory tract
Function: conduction, filtration, humidification and heating of inhaled air.

PARTS:
Nasal Cavity
Paranasal sinuses
PHARYNX: After passing through the nasal cavity and paranasal sinuses,
the inhaled air exits throuhg the nasal choanae into the pharynx.

Pharynx
The larynx: Is a completely hollow structure that is located anterior
to the esophagus
Lower respiratory tract
Function: air conduction and gas exchange

PARTS:

trachea
bronchi
bronchioles
alveoli
lungs
Trachea: the main task of the trachea is to move air during breathing,
that is, in and out of the lungs.
The bronchi: branch into smaller tubes that become bronchioles.
Bronchioles: are the small tubular tubes of the lung and connect the bronchi to the
alveoli.
The alveoli: the exchange of oxygen and carbon dioxide occurs between
the lung and the blood during respiration.
Lungs: The lungs are the organs in which the blood
receives oxygen from the inspired air and releases
carbon dioxide, which passes into the exhaled air.
