2- An earth fault relay has a plug setting of 125% and
the current rating is 5A. It is connected to a C.T. of a
ratio 500/5A. Calculate the minimum current in the
primary that will operate the relay and the
corresponding time.

3- An O.C.R has a plug setting of 150% and has a time
multiplier setting of 0.5. The relay is connected in a
circuit through a C.T. having ratio of 500/5A. Calculate
the time of operation of the relay for a fault current of
6000A. The relay ccs are given in table 1.

4- A 10 MVA transformer operate up to 25% overload, feeds 11kV bus-bar
through C.B., the 11 kV bus-bar feed two outgoing feeders through C.B. the
C.T. housed in transformer and feeder C.B. have ratios of 525/1A and 352/1A
respectively. All relays have the following ccs for a 100% plug setting Table 1.
The relay on feeder have plug setting of 100% for over load 10% on earth
fault, TMS of 0.3 in all cases. A fault occurs on one of the outgoing feeders
and the current flows into it via transformer. Find the operating time of the
transformer relay for fault current of 5250A in each phase assuming a time
margin of 0.5 sec

5- A 20 MVA transformer which may be operate at 30%
overload feeds 11kV bus-bar through a main C.B. (with
1000/5A rating) three feeders are taken from the main
bus through 3 C.B.s (each rating 400/5A). The feeders
are protected with overload invers time relay. The relays
on feeder C.B. have a 125% plug setting and 0.3 time
multiplier setting. If a three phase short circuit fault
occurred on one of the feeders and the fault current of
5000A flows through it. Find the operating time of the
feeder relay, the minimum plug setting of the
transformer relay and time multiplier setting assuming a
time margin of 0.4 sec. The relay characteristics as in
table 1. (Available P.S. are 100%, 115%, 125%, 150%,

2000A relay 1 set on 100% plug setting. For a time
grading margin of 0.5 sec. Determine time of operation
of the two relays assuming that relay 1 has a T.M.S of

7- An 11kV, 3 phase radial feeder is equipped with two C.T.s
along with associated inverse time relays at two different
locations. The C.T. ratios are 600/5A and 200/5A; respectively
and the relay associated with each C.T. has the following
characteristics at 1 time multiplier setting as in table (1). The
relay on 200/5A C.T. has a 150% plug setting and 0.2 time
multiplier setting. Determine the time operation of this relay, if
the fault current through the feeder is 3000A. Also calculate the
time multiplier setting and time operation of the relay connected
to the 600/5A C.T. assuming a plug setting of 200% and taking
into consideration a discrimination time margin of 0.2 sec.

induction type definite time overcurrent relays with characteristics given in
table 1. The feeders relay has 125% plug setting and 0.3 time multiplier
setting. If the power transformer may be operate up to 30% overload and a
three phase fault current of 5000A passed through one of the feeders. Find the
