You are aware of the fact that Abusive Supervision is a four dimensional construct namely
scapegoating, credit stealing, yelling and belittling behavior. Furthermore, you already know that
these dimensions have already been tested in three different geographical locations namely
Karachi, Dubai and Istanbul. However, for greater generalizability of results, you want to
replicate the study in London. Please explain the following with reason:
a) Are you trying to develop a theory or test the theory?
b) Will it be an explanatory study or exploratory study?
c) Will your study be inductive or deductive?
d) What will be the ontological position of your study?
e) What will be the axiological position of your study?

Answers:
a) I am trying to test out a theory since I want to confirm that the dimensions of Abusive
Supervision observed in Dubai, Istanbul and Karachi hold true in distinct cultural setting by
testing it out in another geographical location
b) My choice will be an explanatory research because the rationale behind selecting
explanatory is to answer whether the characteristics of abusive supervision that have been
identified in other locations applies in London as well
c) I'll start with a theory that describes the four dimensions of Abusive Supervision that is
centered on research that has already been done. I will then gather the information needed
to test the theory in London so my study will be Deductive in nature.
d) Objectivism will be the ontological stance taken by my research, meaning that I will hold the
opinion that Abusive Supervision is an objective fact that can be independently investigated
from the perspectives of different people.
e) My goal is to lessen my own biases and concentrate on gathering objective data in order to
guarantee the validity of the results so the axiological positioning of my study will be value
natural.
