GOOD DAY

EVERYONE!
THE
MENSTRUAL
CYCLE
Menstruation
is the monthly shedding
of the lining of the
uterus.
What is the difference
between menstruation
and menstrual cycle?
THE PHASES OF
MENSTRUAL CYCLE
Menstrual Phase
Occurs when there
is a shedding of
period blood,
unfertilized egg,
and uterine lining.
Menstrual Phase
The uterus sheds its
inner lining of soft
tissue and blood
vessels which exits the
body from the vagina
in the form of
menstrual fluid.
Follicular Phase
It starts from the
first day of the
period (overlapping
with the menstrual
phase) until
ovulation.
Follicular Phase
Estrogen- a hormone that was released by
the ovary that thickens the uterine lining

Follicle-stimulating hormone (or FSH)- that

produces and matures follicles (small sacs
in the ovary that contains an immature
egg).
Ovulation Phase
On the 14th day of the
cycle, the pituitary
gland secretes a
hormone that causes
the ovary to release
the mature egg cell.
Ovulation Phase
The term
“ovulation”
indicates the
formation of a
mature egg by one
of the ovaries.
Luteal Phase
This phase starts on the
fifteenth day and lasts
up to the end of the
cycle. After ovulation,
the follicles develop a
structure called the
corpus luteum.
Why does the
menstrual cycle stop
during menopause?
FACT OR BLUFF
You can still get
pregnant if you’re on
your period.
