PROJECT PROFILE

TITLE : MANGROVE AND BEACH FOREST DEVELOPMENT


PROJECT LOCATION : San Isidro, Piape, Punta Piape, Lower Limonzo & Palili
Padada, Davao del Sur
SOURCE OF FUNDS : DENR under the Accelerated and Sustainable Anti-Poverty
Program (ASAPP)
PROJECT COST : Php 500,000.00

I. RATIONALE:

Community participation is important in the management and protection of sea and its
coastal resources. Right from the start of Coastal Resource Management (CRM), sectors that
will be affected by the process should be either directly or indirectly. These include fishermen,
consumers, non-government organizations, stakeholders and local government officials.

In effect, sharing of economic benefits particularly from mangrove and beach forest area
can increase income for local people, improve employment benefits that may arise, and then
the community can assist or ever responsible for enforcement, thus reducing cost to
government agencies.

Moreover, it is but the concern of the LGU to enhance mangrove and beach
development, thus, sustaining the conservation and preservation of our coastal resources.

II. OBJECTIVES

The LGU wishes to achieve the following objectives:

1. To enhance the rehabilitation and regeneration of land and coastal resources of the
municipality;
2. To develop beach forest through the planting of acacia seedlings and other suitable
mangrove specie in the area; and
3. To develop and sustain coastal resources and marine life, thus, increase income of
the stakeholders.
4. To provide cash for work to the coastal people during the implementation of the
project.

III. PROJECT DESCRIPTION/MANAGEMENT

This particular project shall be implemented at the pilot coastal barangays of the
locality. Its implementation shall be vested at the Office of the Local Chief Executive through
the Municipal Environment and Natural Resources Office (MENRO) with the coordination of
other offices directly for its implementation. The monitoring shall be conducted by barangay
based organized group in collaboration with the MENRO.
IV. BUDGETARY REQUIREMENTS

The budgetary requirements of Five Hundred Thousand (P500,000.00) shall be


charged against DENR under the Accelerated and Sustainable Anti-Poverty Program
(ASAPP).
