Engineering is finding solutions to real-world practical problems in a logical

manner with the aid of technology. Being an engineer, someone who will be
able to make a positive change in our world is what I admire to be. Although
I find literature, history, and business studies interesting, I have always
found a special place for engineering and science subjects, especially
computer science. Till now, I have taken up 4 sciences in my IGCSEs and all
STEM subjects in my A-levels. Furthermore, my father is an engineer with a
business degree and I find his work in the industry, using his engineering
skills to better his companies business quite enticing. My mother also
inspires me and continues to help me focus on working hard and honestly.
My parents have always supported me in my pursuit of academic success,
and I would love for HKU to be my next step in becoming an engineer,
having a positive impact by solving problems.

I am looking for a broad and flexible engineering education, exactly what

HKU provides. It is particularly interesting to me that we will only choose our
majors in the second semester which will give me ample time to choose
precisely what field I would like to pursue. My preference at the moment is
computer science, as it covers a wide variety of subjects. Another aspect of
HKU I admire is the emphasis on academic success as well as learning and
research opportunities. It is amazing that HKU is providing financial
assistance for high achievers in academics showing the commitment
towards academic success. Along with academics, I love that there are so
many research and internship opportunities as well as it is essential in
learning computer science, to learn by doing.

HKU not only has a great curriculum and facilities, but also a vibrant campus
and community. Coming to a new place is surely a challenge; one that being
at HKU will make it less of one. Food, soccer, an international community,
and being in Hong Kong are all great perks of studying at HKU. Eating good
food is one of the pleasures of my life and it’s great that there are so many
different cuisines and restaurants in Hong Kong and at HKU. Being in Dubai
for 4 years, soccer quickly became one of my favorite hobbies and seeing
that Hong Kong’s favorite sport is soccer is quite exciting. Additionally, a
friend of mine who is an HKU student now has played an essential role in my
desire to be part of HKU. He tells me how happy he is at HKU and how much
he’s learning, compelling me to apply to HKU. He was one of my best friends
at my school in Dubai and I am hoping to meet him again. Finally, certainly
look forward to living in Hong Kong, one of the best cities in the world. Hong
Kong not only has a high standard of life but, also great opportunities for
technological advancement and development in the industry.

In conclusion, I want to be a part of HKU to be equipped with professional

skills and knowledge to be able to solve problems and have a positive impact
in the industry. HKU is geared towards fulfilling my future aspirations and I
hope to be part of one of the top Asian Universities and become a player in
Asia’s development.
