Solve the following:

3. Find the derivative by use of Definition 2.1 if 𝑦 = √4𝑥 + 3.

4. Find the dy/dx of each of the following:


a. 𝑦 = √5 − 6𝑥

b. 𝑦 = 2𝑥+1
c. 𝑦 = (2𝑥 + 5)√4𝑥 − 1
5. Find the slope of the tangent to the curve 𝑦 = 7 − 𝑥 2 + 4𝑥 3 at the given point (-1,2).

6. Use Chain Rule to find 𝑦 ′ and express the final answer in terms of x if 𝑦 = √𝑢 + 2,
𝑢 = 4𝑥 − 2

7. Use the Inverse Function Rule to find 𝑦 ′ if 𝑥 = 2(4𝑦 + 1)3 .

8. Find 𝑦 ′′ if 4𝑥 2 + 9𝑦 2 = 36.

9. Find the equations of the tangent and normal to the graph of the given function
𝑦 = 𝑥√𝑥 − 1at the given point (5, 10).

10. Determine whether the function is increasing or decreasing in the given interval if
𝑓 (𝑥 ) = 6𝑥 + 3𝑥 2 − 4𝑥 3 , [1, 3].

11. If the given function is 𝑦 = 2𝑥 3 + 9𝑥 2 − 12𝑥 + 4, find (a) the values of x for which
the function is a maximum or a minimum, (b) the maximum or minimum value of
