Domain 1 Planning, Preparation and Assessment

Planning: Dana's lesson was well-written and planned. Her goal was to practice the content, reflect
on the content, and establish a relationship with the content. Her planning was initiated with the
Pennsylvania academic standards for math with angles for grade four. The lesson included a plan
for recalling prior content and learning new content.

Preparation: Dana's preparation was evident in her teaching. Differentiated instruction showed
that Dana prepared the lesson based on her students' prior knowledge. She planned time in the
lesson to stop often to engage her students in conversations amongst themselves. She reviewed the
context the night before to give the best support for her students. Little instructional time was lost
because routines and procedures were established that were developmentally appropriate for all
students. Students had adequate wait time to ensure an understanding of the routines and
procedures.

Planning included time for students to reflect on their personal learning and growth by completing
an exit ticket.

Assessment: Throughout the lesson, she used analogies to prepare students to understand the
context: Miss Robins, Mr. P, and I shared a sandwich. Mr. P was greedy and ate more than a piece
to demonstrate knowledge of angles. She engaged students with high-quality questions for
assessment: How do you feel about that? How do we feel about this? Do we agree? Show me with
your fingers, someone come up and show me on the board, does anyone have anything to add?
Also, an exit ticket was used to further assess students understanding.
