lesson or presenting the new
lesson “Say present if your name is called.”
The teacher will call each names for the attendance. “Present.”

“What have we discussed last meeting? Anyone

from the class who can give some recapitulation.” “Last meeting, we discussed about the
first rule of the probability which is the
complement rule.”
“What formula did we use in getting the probability
of an event using the complement rule?” P(A) = 1 - P(Aᶜ)

“What is the probability of getting a number that is

not divisible by 4 from numbers 1 to 30?”

“Excellent.”

B. Establishing a purpose “For this lesson, our objectives will be the following. A student will read the objectives
for the lesson Kindly read.” pasted on the board.

C. Presenting “Again, I will be presenting you some topics from

examples/instances of the your elementary years. Who wants to answer?” A student will go to the board and will
new lesson answer the following.

regarding multiplication of fractions. We will be
using these concepts for our new topic this
morning/afternoon.”

D. Discussing new concepts “Let us now come to the next rule.”

and practicing new skills #1 2. Multiplication Rule A student will read the paragraph.
The rule of multiplication applies to the
situation when we want to know the probability of
the intersection of two events; that is, we want to
know the probability that two events (Event A and
Event B) both occur.

P(A ꓵ B) = P(A) • P(B|A)

P(A ꓵ B) = P(BA) • P(AB|BA)

You can often think of P(A and B) as being the A student will read the paragraph.
probability of first getting A with probability P(A),
and then getting B with probability P(B|A). This is
the same as first getting B with probability P(B) and
then getting A with probability P(A|B).

“This is similar to finding the probability of

dependent events.”

Example: A student will read the statement.

1. A basket contains 6 red marbles and 4 black
marbles. Two marbles are drawn without
replacement from the basket. What is the
probability that both of the marbles are black?

Solution: Let A = the event that the first marble is

“What is our A or the first event?” black
Let B = the event that the second
“Then our second event will be?” marble is black.

We know the following:

 In the beginning, there are 10 marbles in
the urn, 4 of which are black. Therefore, P(A) = 4/10
what is the probability of the first event?

 After the first selection, there are 9 marbles

in the urn, 3 of which are black. Then what
is the probability of the second event with
respect to the result of the first event?” P(B|A) = 3/9

“Therefore, based on the rule of multiplication”

2. Drawing two random cards from a deck A student will read the statement.
without replacement. What will be the probability
of getting two aces?
“How many aces are there in a deck of cards?” “There are 4.”
“So, what will be our solution?”
“Our solution will be like this.”

E. Discussing new concepts Special Multiplication Rule

and practicing new skills #2 Probabilities for any number of independent
events can be multiplied to get the joint probability.
Just like getting the probability of independent
events, we will multiply the probability of each
event.
P(A and B) = P(A ꓵ B) = P(A) • P(B)
A student will read the paragraph.
Example:
1. A fair coin is tossed twice, the chance of
getting a head and then a tail is

P(H1 and T2) = P(H1) • P(T2) = ½ • ½ = ¼.

2. A die is thrown 3 times. The probability of

getting the a six on the last throw is

P(not 6, not 6 and 6) =

F. Developing mastery “I will be grouping the class into 6. Each group will The students will go to their groups and
(Leads to Formative answer the following.” will answer the following.
Assessment 3) Problem 1
An urn contains 6 red marbles and 4 black Answers
marbles. Two marbles are drawn with 1) 0.16
replacement from the urn. What is the probability in 2) 75%
decimal that both of the marbles are black?

Problem 2
A box contains the letters of the word
NATIONAL. What will be the probability in percent
of picking a letter that is not an A?

G. Finding practical This applies in the examples of discussion.

application of concepts and
skills in daily living
H. Making generalizations “Do you have any questions? Or something to clarify
and abstractions about the from our discussion today?” “None, ma’am.”
lesson “Did you fully understand our lesson?” “Yes, ma’am.”

“What was the second rule of probability that we

have discussed?” “The multiplication rule.”

“What have you learned from this rule?” “Multiplication rule, is just like solving
for the probability of dependent and

independent events. When the events

are independent, we will just simply
multiply the probability of the events.”
“How about the dependent events.”
“While when the events are dependent,
we will multiply the probability of the
first event and the probability of the
second event with respect to the result
of the first event.”
“Very well said.”

I. Evaluating Learning On a half sheet of paper, answer the following. Answers

1. If P(G) = 0.42, P(M) = 0.33 and G and M are 1.
independent, what’s the probability of G and M?

2. Lisa has a collection of nail cuticles. She has 3 2.

reds, 4 pink, and 5 violets. She wants to have a
combination of colors, so she first picked a pink. She
did not replace it, what is the probability that Lisa
will get violet for her second pick?
