BRIDGE BUILDING COMPETITION

Contest Guidelines

General Eligibility
1. All bona fide BSCE students of the University of Mindanao are eligible to
participate in the Bridge Building Competition.
2. Each team shall be composed of 3 members, regardless of year level.
3. Each team shall register on or before 14 November 2022 at 11:59PM to
secure their slot.1
4. Only the first five teams to register shall be allowed to compete.
5. Announcement of the five eligible teams shall be done on 15 November
2022.

Venue and Schedule of the Event

1. The Venue of the event shall be at the BE LOBBY, near the main staircase of
the BE building in front of the Materials Testing Laboratory (BE108).
2. The event shall be scheduled on 18 November 2022 at 1:00PM to 5:00PM.
3. Announcement of Winners will be done at the event proper, and the awarding
shall be done during the culminating program of the ACES-JPICE League
2022.

General Mechanics
1. Attendance will be open from 1:00PM to 1:15PM at the BE Lobby. All
participating teams must sign their attendance punctually. Late or absence of
members may result to team disqualification.
2. Each team must provide and can only use 50 to 200 popsicle sticks and
thumb tacks using the specifications of the organizers.
3. Each team will be given exactly 2 hours to conceptualize and construct their
own bridge design that has the span of 1 to 1.5 meters in length.
4. After the allotted time, each bridge will be subjected to 0.5 Kg, 1.0 Kg, and
2.0 Kg weights for 1 minute each.

Criteria for Judging

Design:
Rigidity 50%
Aesthetics 30%
Concept 20%

Test (deductions):
Deflection (per cm) 1 point
Time (per second) 1 point

The organizers reserve the right to extend the deadline of registration without prior
notice.
