WASTE MANAGEMENT

Speech by: Kyla Reese Cotillon

I'm glad to speak with my teacher and my fellow classmates this morning about waste
management. But what is waste management, before we begin? Waste management is defined
as a number of schemes to manage and dispose of waste. It can be discarding, destroying,
processing, recycling, and even reusing. In today's society, waste management has become a
major issue. The amount of waste being generated increases day by day. As a result, many
people's lives are affected by the amount of waste.
Now, following my discussion of the concept of waste management, let us take a closer look at
its importance as well as how it is to be managed. There are several ways of reducing waste, but
the simplest is to recycle. This is the most fundamental method. Why? 'Cause it does not require
any particular type of resources, and also makes use of waste.
The use of landfills is another method that should be brought to light, as landfilling is the most
common form of waste management. The waste is collected in huge pits on the ground, which
are covered with a layer of mud to allow the waste to decompose over a period of years. Its
drawbacks, however, are the smell and its effect on climate change.
Reducing waste is not only for the protection of the environment, it will save money or reduce
costs associated with disposal. The environmental benefit from recycling and reuse of waste that
are produced is also significant, since it reduces the need to obtain resources and its potential
for contamination.
Many methods can help with waste management and it is important to select a method that
best meets your needs. We must always remember that healthy living is encouraged by a clean
and attractive environment. Thank You!
