Budget cuts caused by the coronavirus crisis have forced
Indonesia to reduce fire patrols and protection for some of the
world’s most important forests, the environment ministry said
recently. Indonesia’s forests are some of the biggest in the world.
They are home to more than a ten percent the world’s mammal
species and nearly a fifth of its birds.
Indonesia is also the world’s top producer of palm oil. It
is still too early in the dry season, when most land is cleared, to
get a clear picture of what will happen this year. But a careful
study of satellite information shows about 400,000 hectares were
cleared in the first 24 weeks of 2020. In the same time period last
year, 300,000 hectares were cleared.
Environmental officials said that the coronavirus
outbreak is affecting the country’s economy. Nearly $50 billion
is being sent to health emergency programs. This led to a fifty
percent budget cut for the team that finds and puts out fires. At
the same time, people who lost their jobs during the health crisis
are clearing land for crops using fires. And in some areas, social
distancing rules are making it harder to fight fires. And the
environment and forest minister told parliament recently that an
extra $35 million was needed to fight forest fires this year.
Environmentalists agreed the budget cuts could have bad results.

Why cats and dogs always fight
Long, long ago, in northen Taiwan, there lived afarmer
and his wife. They had a ring of gold. They didn’t know it was
lucky ring. Whoever owned it would have enough to eat. The
farmer and his wife sold it to a jeweler. Soon afterwards, they
grew pooree and poorer. They didn’t even have enough money to
buy food.
The couple had a dog and a cat. They also didn’t have
any food to eat. The animals wanted to help their owner but they
didn’t know what to do.
“I must sure that it must have been a magic ring” dog
said. “Perhaps” answered the cat. “But how can we get it back
from the jeweler?”
After many days, they thought of a plan. “You must cactch a
mouse” said the dog. “Then carry it to the jeweler’s shop. The
ring is locked up there in a box. The mouse gnaw a hole in the
box and fetch out the ring. If the mouse does not want to help,
you must bite him to death”. Soon cat caught a mouse. The dog
followed behind while the cat carried it to the jeweler’s shop.
The mouse crapt and gnawed a hole in the box and brought out
the ring. The cat the ring in its mouth and ran home. The dog
followed. Now the dog could only run on the ground. He had to
go to all the way around the houses and through the streets. But
the cat was able to run over the house-tops. So the cat arrived
home long before the dog. She brought the ring to the farmer and
his wife. “This is the magic ring” said the cat. “You must not
part with it otherwise we shall be poor and have nothing to eat. I
have brought it back. Please keep it carefully. You will find that
we shall now be able to live comfortable again”.
“What a cleaver cat!” said the farmer. “We shall look
after you as if you were our own child”. Just than the dog ran in.
the farmer and his wife beat him for not helping the cat bring
home the ring. The cat sat on the lap of the farmer’s wife and and
pured. So the dog became very angry with the cat. Every time he
saw her after that, he chased her and tried to bite her. This is why
cats and dogs always fight.

A Trip to Tanjung Setia Beach
Last year, at the end of the year, my wife and I decided
to spend our holiday at Tanjung Setia beach, which located
around 234 kilometers from Bandar Lampung.
When we arrived at the beach, we were surprised to see
the beautiful view of the beach. After having a quick dip in the
ocean, which was really cold and windy, we realized that there
were not many people there. We thought that it happened
because it was too windy there during that time but we finally
realized that it was Christmas holiday so almost all of tourists
who are used to spending time there went back to their country.
After spending few times swimming in the beach, we
bought some hot chips at the takeaway store nearby, and we rode
our bikes down the beach for a while, on the hard, damp part of
the sand. The next day we visited Labuan Jukung beach. There,
we were amazed to see the high wave owned by this beach.
Because it was so high that nobody was brave enough to surf on
it that time.
The third day there, we decided to go home when we
finally made it back home, we were both totally exhausted
because of the trip but we were so happy to travel such an
amazing beach Lampung province has.
