1. What are the effects of ICT in your life? Cite two concrete examples
and elaborate.
As it is known, everything in life, there is always a positive and negative side of
everything. But whether the effect is positive or negative, the effects of ICT is far
reaching and cannot be overemphasized. The effects of ICT looks at how our life has
been changed, for better and for worse. It includes both positive and negative effects at
how our life is affected.
Positive Effect: ICT has been our source for entertainment and
leisure such as media streaming.
ICT has provided us with more ways of entertaining ourselves. Now, we can
listen to music, look at photographs, and watch a movie. As psychology students, we
find it more positive when sadness can be lifted when we do something enjoyable, and
one of it would be when we watch something funny on Facebook reels or on TikTok.
We can also listen to music that captures what we’re feeling at that moment. ICT has
given us the access for fun and relaxation if we’re feeling a bit blue or sad. With
technologies provided by ICT, we can stream, or download media that we use for
entertainment. For these entertainments, we would have to use the wireless network, or
the internet to allow us to stream on any websites. If it weren't for ICT, we wouldn't be
able to have these.
Negative Effect: ICT has somehow made us less productive.
One of the biggest impacts of ICT in our life is related to distraction. It leads to
loss of focus and decreased productivity. For example, as students, when we have to use
our phones to navigate the online search engine like Google for our assignments, we’re
always tempted to open our social media to check some notifications. Our attention will
eventually be directed on scrolling through our social media. This can interrupt work
and cause us to switch between tasks, reducing our overall efficiency. ICT has
somehow made it more difficult to stay on task and devote sustained attention. This
interferes with our work productivity.
